April is fast approaching, dont delay get in touch now, please read.
Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax requires self-employed individuals and landlords with a combined annual income over £50,000 to use HMRC-approved software for digital record-keeping, quarterly reporting, and final tax submissions. Starting 6 April 2026, this system replaces the annual self-assessment process, requiring four updates plus a final declaration.
Key Aspects of MTD for Self-Employed:
Thresholds & Timeline: From April 2026, those with qualifying income over £50,000 must comply. This drops to £30,000 in April 2027 and £20,000 in April 2028.
Digital Records: You must maintain digital records of all business income and expenses using functional, compatible software (spreadsheets are allowed if they are digitally linked to HMRC).
Quarterly Updates: Instead of one annual tax return, you must submit quarterly updates of income and expenses to HMRC.
Final Declaration: A final end-of-year submission is required by 31 January, which settles the tax due, similar to the current Self Assessment deadline.
Impact: This system aims to reduce errors and improve accuracy by replacing manual, paper-based bookkeeping with real-time digital tracking.

Please get in touch to give us time to get you set up ready for April, don't leave it last minute.
