Summer's over, and kids are back to school! Whilst getting back into routine feels great for the parents, your pet might be feeling a little lost without their cheeky sidekicks.

If your dog or cat is experiencing separation anxiety, here's what you can do:

-To prevent shadowing, which is when your dog needs to be close at all times, try closing a door or gate when you leave the room to get them used to some distance.

-Make sure they have their own bed and comfy space to feel safe in, even when they're alone.

-Actions like picking up your keys can trigger anxiety as it's a sign you're leaving. Try to get them used to this throughout the day, even if you're not leaving the house, to desensitise them.

-Vary your interactions with them. Don't make a big deal when leaving the house or returning, and try to give them something else of interest, like a new toy.

Change can be difficult for our pets, and they may not understand why the house is suddenly empty again! Show them love and compassion, and try to get them used to the new routine.
