This is an increasing problem and often the criminals are well organised and brazen in their approach. I've handled claims where men in high viz jackets have been seen by witnesses driving stolen items down the road at the end of a working day and the witnesses assumed that it was quite normal.

An interesting read as Aviva celebrate their 325th anniversary. When I started out some insurance companies gave their agents replicas of their old Fire Marks to display in their offices. In the days when insurance companies had their own fire engines these plaques were used to identify which company insured the buildng.

It is certainly frustrating when insurers appear to drag their feet over a genuine claim but here is an example of the type of thing they have to guard against. The result of fraudulent or exaggerated claims is higher premiums for everyone.
