Hailsham to celebrate Platinum Jubilee with beacon lighting and free family fun day.

Today, Sunday 6th February, marks the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.

Hailsham will proudly join others across the country and the world, in celebrating, this June, the Queen’s 70th year on the throne and becoming the first British sovereign in history to reach this milestone.

Hailsham will host an official beacon lighting on Thursday June 2nd, where we will be inviting the community, schools, charities, VIPs and dignitaries to come together for an evening of entertainment and witness the lighting of the beacon.

Also, on Sunday 5th June, we will be hosting a huge community street party style event on the Western Road Recreation Ground. The free to attend event will host a large stage with music, dance, games and entertainment.

The weekend will conclude with a huge music performance on stage, which will be announced very soon.

Following our recent survey, 81% of visitors who responded said they'd come back to another Hailsham Live. Also, visitors rated their visit an average of 8.7 out of 10! Thank you so much for your feedback. We're pleased that not only did the 14 charities did so well from the event, but the town centre was busy again. Plans are now being discussed for 2022. Watch this space. :)

Celebrating 75th Anniversary of VE Day in Hailsham in 2020

Hailsham LIVE is an event bringing the community together. In collaboration with Hailsham Town Council ans Wealden Council, Schools, musical, dance and drama and social groups will perform to spectators. The day includes the National celebrations to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of VE Day.

Hailsham LIVE is free to attend and is a non-profit event. Hailsham LIVE will take place on Bank Holiday Friday 8 May 2020 from 12pm (noon) to 10pm. It will comprise of talent from community groups, individuals, local bands and professional artists to provide a day of entertainment. Friday 8 May 2020 is being made a Bank Holiday by the government, having moved it from Monday 4 May 2020 since it is recognising the 75th anniversary of VE Day. We will recognise the VE Day element to this day by commemorating this via the Royal British Legion. Hailsham LIVE is being paid for by sponsorship from Hailsham Town Council, other businesses, and traders are paying for stands in order to provide the day of entertainment for this free-to-attend event. Hailsham LIVE is aware of the carbon footprint for outside events and, where possible, is addressing where this can be improved by using carbon-friendly materials. Hailsham LIVE is family-friendly.
