I know so many of you have been through this this week. 🥹 Tell me, how did your first days go?
I was fine waving him onto the bus. It was making this portrait that got me.
I bawled my eyes out!
Seeing how his little profile has changed, and seeing him in a tie and suit… I don’t feel ready for it. Yet at the same time, I have to be, and I kind of am.
Did anyone else have a bit of a wobble this week? 🤍

Every September I remember to take the smiling photo on the doorstep, and at the post box. But the photo I treasure most isn’t that one.

It’s the little side profile that I managed to take of my youngest very first day at primary school. That photo went on to become one of my all time favourite portraits of him. And it only took a few extra seconds while I was trying to get him to stand still.

‌He’s now starting secondary school, and I honestly don’t know where those years went.

If you’re getting ready for another first day, this is your reminder to take that extra side profile photo. Future you will be so glad you did.

And if one day you’d like us to turn it into a portrait, we’ll be here when you’re ready.

I came across these words the other day and couldn’t stop thinking about them.

They reminded me exactly why I created Little Peach Portraits.

Parenting is messy. It’s noisy. It’s full of moments we wish we’d handled differently. But it’s also full of love, ordinary days and tiny details we’ll one day miss.

That’s what I hope these portraits capture.

Not perfection. Just a moment in time. A little reminder of who they were, exactly as they are.

It all starts with one photo. The summer holidays might not be the time you’re thinking about ordering a portrait, but they are the perfect time to take the photos you’ll treasure forever.
Whether they’re running around the garden, building sandcastles on the beach or splashing in the pool, take a few minutes to snap a side profile while they’re busy being little.
They’re only little once. Make it last forever.

This is 11. Every year I think it’ll get easier. Every year it somehow gets harder because this one never stays still!
But it’s always worth it.

Right now, these birthday portraits probably mean far more to me than they do to him.
One day, I hope he’ll treasure them as much as I do.

If you’re thinking about a portrait this year, the summer holidays are actually the perfect time to take a few side profile photos while everyone’s a little more relaxed and you’ve got a bit more time to nail that shot.

You don’t need to order today. Just save a couple of side profile photos to your camera roll. And if you’re not sure you’ve got the right one, send them over. I’m always happy to check before you order.
