This post is to honour the late Michael Meacock, Lloyd's legend, much loved and respected Underwriter of Syndicate 727. Michael passed away peacefully at the age of 85 during his annual holiday in Antigua surrounded by his family on 22nd February 2023.
The syndicate was formed by Michael’s grandfather to underwrite the 1910 account for just six unlimited liability names. Michael has spent all his working life at Lloyd’s taking over the syndicate from his father in 1966. Four generations of Meacocks have been in Lloyd’s now with his son James joining the company in 2016.
If he did not like a risk he simply said in his always polite way "This one is not for me today". Lloyd’s as he once said has been in their genes. He will be remembered as a man of integrity, resilience and kindness. He always had time to help the younger generation to educate and hone their skills. Michael was also a keen cricket fan, president of the Much Hadham Cricket Club and member of the MCC.
Brokers always liked to keep a line for Michael in our subscription market as a seal of approval from the “Father of the House”. It is a loss to the whole market of such a great professional and a very kind, caring person as we all remember him.
His main area of interest was Non-Marine. He was a very successful underwriter and was always proud to have been able to produce "an attractive return on Names capital over six underwriting cycles”.
