New FCA rules came into force on 15 July 2026, giving customers stronger protection including affordability checks, clearer information and access to the Financial Ombudsman Service.

But there is another important change to understandโ€ฆ

Buy Now, Pay Later is credit. It may appear on your credit file, missed payments could affect your history, and mortgage lenders may take your repayments into account.

That does not mean using Klarna will automatically stop you getting a mortgage. However, several agreements, missed payments or regularly relying on BNPL could raise questions.
