That's a wrap for the most bonkers, transformative, hilarious, demanding and educational financial year at The Business Insurance Bureau to date. 🌪😂🎉💃🏼

✅ We took on more new staff as we bolster ourselves for huge growth in 2023-2024 🚀

✅ We welcomed some really fantastic new clients and worked very hard to support our long standing ones through the challenges coming thick and fast from the insurance market. ☔

✅ We had major wins on the claims side for our clients thanks to our ever determined Claims Fairy Helen Fairbairn Cert CII 🧚

✅ Our evolving has become a standout part of why people join us - "As a place to work, The Business Insurance Bureau is what other companies spend a fortune trying to convince you they are." (Warms the heart of my bottom it really does ❤️)

With lots of curveballs from insurers and challenging days from all angles, our team has really shown that if Carlsberg did teams, ours would probably* (*definitely) be the best in the world! 🤗

The whole team at The Business Insurance Bureau would like to congratulate and thank our 'Queen of the Sump' Paula Gillies for her (first😉) 25 YEARS of service.

Paula joined us back in 1997 as a Personal Lines Trainee back when we used to do both commercial and personal lines, and has worked her way across the business.

Over the years she has moved from Underwriting and Broking where she has held 'the pen' for two decades alongside Robert Hannah, and is now doing the Management Accounting, HR and Recruitment, as well as managing the back office and everything else that lands in 'the sump'.

Paula's famous phrase is "Sidewards!", in retort to Bob's usual '"Onwards!", which pokes fun at just how chaotic and changeable each day is in the insurance industry.

With her great humour, unwavering commitment, reliability and adaptability, it's without doubt that Paula's impact on The Business Insurance Bureau is a large part of why it is still going strong today.

We thank you from the heart of our bottoms Paula and look forward to working with you for another 25 years!

So, what is it like to work at The Business Insurance Bureau?

As a growing team of 9, we are based in a beautiful Townhouse just off Charing Cross with on-street parking and free refreshments (water, coffee/tea, crisps, fruit, biscuits, etc), collaborating with one another on the best personal service we can provide to our clients.

We start each day with a meeting where we solve problems, take part in training and generally have a laugh - sometimes we even play music and dish out books. It's a great boost to the morning, and gets everyone going for a busy day ahead.

Throughout the day, the phones get answered by real humans, ready to help. There is no automated system, and if any problem is too big we share it out and work together on how best to solve it. This is exactly why our clients come to us, because no matter the complexity of the problem we will always do our very best to solve it. With many minds at work, we rarely leave problems unsolved.

This kind of approach to learning encourages all of our team to pick up knowledge in areas that might not be connected to their day-to-day work, but will help them now and in the future should they look to progress their careers or move into a different type of work.

Bob has been doing this for over 40 years - there aren't many people left in Glasgow who are in a position to mentor that can make claim to this, making each day a fantastic learning opportunity. Bob encourages professional and personal development, even when it's not connected to your work, because he truly cares about helping people become who they deserve to be.

This kind of approach leads to a very open, supportive and trusted way of working, where you can develop as both a human being and an insurance professional, without targets or KPI's.
