We are delighted to say that Ken Anderson from One Solution has given us another generous donation. This means we will be able to achieve the three things we hoped to do before the end of the year.
Firstly we will begin the first stage of permacultivation over 4 acres at the school using seeds purchased from HOJA to grow cowpeas, a nitrogen giving plant which is also an edible crop. We will also dig a compost pit so that we can start to make our own compost to add to the fields. Over the next couple of years we hope the soil in the school fields will gradually be improved enough to give us a good harvest of maize, beans, peanuts or sunflowers. We will be helped in this by the proceeds from the exclusive art raffle tickets, which are selling fast and which will be drawn next month.
We also plan to upgrade the dormitory by replacing some of the wooden bunk beds with stronger metal ones. This will reduce any need to double up in the bunk beds. New mattresses will also be bought and if there are sufficient funds we will purchase new sheets and blankets.
Finally we can buy all the new textbooks in all subjects, for our standard 4 children, so we are ready to take them on to standard 5 in January. We will also continue to upgrade the classrooms and purchase teaching and learning materials.
