Chris Anderson has been working very hard constructing our video since we got back from Tanzania. He told me this week that things are well underway. We got amazing footage this year so we are super excited about it. It is so top secret that even i am not allowed to see any of the editing! I cant wait to see the finished article and to share it with you all after the One Solution/Advanta conference in December.

The team have just completed yet another amazing trip to Tanzania. We built a garden, planted vegetables and fruit trees, we built a bigger area for the chickens and did our usual programme of teaching and sports day.
We also left behind £3000 to pay for some new mattresses and bed sheets in the dormitory, new uniforms and shoes for those children most in need and more textbooks for each class of the school. Massive thank you to our clients, colleagues and supporters for making this possible.

We are delighted to say that Ken Anderson from One Solution has given us another generous donation. This means we will be able to achieve the three things we hoped to do before the end of the year.

Firstly we will begin the first stage of permacultivation over 4 acres at the school using seeds purchased from HOJA to grow cowpeas, a nitrogen giving plant which is also an edible crop. We will also dig a compost pit so that we can start to make our own compost to add to the fields. Over the next couple of years we hope the soil in the school fields will gradually be improved enough to give us a good harvest of maize, beans, peanuts or sunflowers. We will be helped in this by the proceeds from the exclusive art raffle tickets, which are selling fast and which will be drawn next month.

We also plan to upgrade the dormitory by replacing some of the wooden bunk beds with stronger metal ones. This will reduce any need to double up in the bunk beds. New mattresses will also be bought and if there are sufficient funds we will purchase new sheets and blankets.

Finally we can buy all the new textbooks in all subjects, for our standard 4 children, so we are ready to take them on to standard 5 in January. We will also continue to upgrade the classrooms and purchase teaching and learning materials.

An update from Tanzania after we donated £1,000 a few months ago to help the water shortage.

An update from Tanzania after we donated £1,000 a few months ago to help the water shortage.

Thanks to the fundraising of the volunteers from One Solution we now have a better more reliable source of clean, safe water. The german pump was fitted to the new well last week and it is now pumping the water to the Sim tank and from there to water stations around the school. Ntimba has suggested looking into solar panels to power the pump since it takes four hours to fill the tank and uses a lot of fuel in the big generator. If solar power is not viable we may purchase a small generator just for pumping the water.
Meanwhile the biogas is building up in the tank but we are still waiting for the biogas stove to be delivered from Dar es Salaam so not cooking on gas yet...

We have just had word from RUDA Tanzania that they have now found water during the dig of the new well. They only had to dig 22 metres down and there is a lot of it so shouldn't be a shortage again. This is great news 💦

We have just had an update from Tanzania that there is good progress on the digging of the new well we funded. They believe they are close to finding the water so the shortage should soon be over. Thank you once again to our continued supporters who help to make projects like this happen.

This was the first of two recent school trips for the standard 4 class who are working very hard just now preparing for the forthcoming Government exams. These exams include IT studies and since we are still waiting for the transformer to connect us to the grid this was a rare chance for the children to go online and to practise using computers. They have studied the theory but few get a chance to use computers for real. This could all change if the present government pushes ahead the electricity installation in rural areas in the hope of winning votes in the election in just a few weeks time. Then we could get our computers up and running at the school. The children enjoyed the outing and looked very smart in their new uniforms.
