🏛️ Some good news for governments in general as bond yields relaxed across most markets for the second week in a row. This is a general reflection of the optimism that the Iran crisis may not result in sustained inflationary shocks, as tensions appear to have peaked.

📈Increasing hopes that a deal between the US and Iran might finally be reached and continued AI optimism helped push US markets to new highs last week.

📊Stock Take:
Last week was a busy time for markets. In the US, markets delivered further gains. The S&P 500 rose for the eighth consecutive week. By style, small-cap and value outperformed growth and large-cap.

Chip maker Nvidia, the world’s most valuable company, reported another bumper set of results for the first quarter. Compared to the year before, sales rose by 85%, while net earnings increased threefold. In both cases, results were way ahead of expectations and confirmed high demand for data centres and AI.

📸In the Picture:
SpaceX’s pending IPO is expected to be the largest in history. Despite a mixed recent earnings profile and currently unprofitable, the company will likely immediately become one of the world’s most valuable companies.

The UK has been experiencing it's fair share of ups and downs lately.

On the up side, figures released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) revealed that the UK economy (as measured by GDP) rose 0.6% in the first quarter of 2026 – the strongest of any G7 nation.

Although, the elephant in the room continues to be the situation with Iran. The Q1 growth figures largely predate the impact of the conflict (which began at the end of February).

On the downside, UK government bond yields are reaching historic levels as 10-year gilt yields spent most of the past few days above 5%, ending the week above 5.1%. To put that number into context, 10-year gilt yields haven’t breached 5% since 2008.

Meanwhile the 30-year gilt yield ended the week within touching distance of 6%, reaching its highest levels since 1998.
