Oliver has joined us as a Business Support Specialist after completing his degree in Economics and Modern Languages, specialising in French and Dutch, at the University of Sheffield. Alongside settling into his new role and the financial services industry, Oliver will be working towards a professional financial services qualification.

Away from the office, Oliver enjoys the cinema and is a keen sports fan. At weekends, you’ll often find him playing rugby or cricket or supporting non-league football.

We’re excited to have Oliver on the team and look forward to seeing the great impact he will make in his new role.

Do you know how your workplace pension works?

It's a tool to help you build savings for later life while you're still employed. In most cases your employer will auto enrol you for this but that often leaves questions...

How does it work? How much are you and your employer are contributing?

Each payday, you usually contribute part of your earnings into your pension. Your employer also contributes, and you may receive tax relief from the government. The amount of contribution can be changed, but for automatically enrolled employees, the minimum total contributions are currently 8% of qualifying earnings however your scheme may offer different terms.

With that said, it's worth checking:

1. How much you and your employer contribute each month.

2. Whether your employer offers contribution matching.

3. How you pension is invested.

4. Whether your current savings are on track for the retirement you want.

Understanding the terms and contribution amount of your workplace pension now could help in making informed decisions when it comes to your retirement pot later on.

Russia’s diesel release and why oil remains above $100 a barrel

President Trump last week announced that his administration had reached an agreement on the release of about 13.5 million barrels of Russian diesel.

However, October’s shipment of 2.3 million barrels against daily global demand of about 30 million barrels means that in the short term, this is unlikely to make a significant dent in bringing the diesel price down.

This festive season, the Cockbain & Associates team is proud to support Cash for Kids Liverpool & North Wales Mission Christmas.

Our Formby HQ head is soon to be an official toy collection point for the Mission Christmas campaign. We warmly invite colleagues, clients and members of our local community to support the appeal by donating a new, unwrapped toys.

With more than 20 years of experience in the financial services industry and a background in banking, Helen is passionate about helping individuals and families make informed financial decisions with confidence. Her focus is on building lasting relationships and providing clear, practical advice that helps clients plan for the future and achieve their goals.

Away from the office, Helen is married with two daughters and loves travelling with her family. She also enjoys exploring the outdoors and can often be found walking her cocker spaniel around the Wirral.
