This month, I renewed my membership at BNI Folkestone for another year - my ninth to be exact.

Networking there has been a big part of Forward Plan’s growth - not just in finding new clients but in building relationships.

Over the last year I’ve been able to support other members and their referrals with their financial planning, which is exactly what it’s all about.

I’m looking forward to another year of learning from the group, giving back where I can and continuing to grow alongside some great local businesses.

I'm delighted to have renewed my SOLLA accreditation for a sixth year

I've been a member of the Society of Later Life Advisers (SOLLA) since October 2021 and I'm pleased to say I've successfully renewed my Later Life Adviser Accreditation for another year.

For those unfamiliar with SOLLA, the accreditation is widely regarded as the gold standard in later-life financial advice.

It's not simply a membership. Accredited advisers must demonstrate specialist knowledge, meet the Society's standards and adhere to a strict Code of Practice.

As we get older, financial decisions can become more complicated, particularly when it comes to retirement, funding long-term care and supporting family members.

Having the right advice from someone who understands these challenges can make a real difference.

I'm very proud to maintain this accreditation and continue helping individuals and families across Kent with their later-life financial planning.

For those of you who are new here, I thought it was about time I introduced myself properly!

I'm Andrew Parmenter, an Independent Financial Adviser and Director of Forward Plan, based in Folkestone, Kent but helping people all over East Kent.

I've been working in financial services for over 25 years, helping individuals, families and business owners with everything from pensions and retirement planning to investments and later-life financial advice.

One thing I've always believed is that financial advice should be straightforward and personal. It's about getting to know people, understanding their circumstances and helping them make informed decisions about their money.

Anyway, enough from me in writing. Here's a little more about who I am and what we do at Forward Plan.

There's just three weeks until the Autumn Budget.

With 28 October getting closer, we're likely to hear a lot more over the next few weeks about what could be changing.

✅ Tax
✅ Pensions
✅ Inheritance Tax
✅ Savings
✅ Investments

Some of those stories may prove correct. Others won't.

It's natural to wonder whether you should be doing something now, but making a significant financial decision simply because of a newspaper headline isn't something I'd recommend.

We'll be watching the Budget closely at Forward Plan and, once it's delivered, I'll be sharing my thoughts on what the announcements actually mean.

You might be thinking, “That’s future stuff, why worry now?”

But preparing for long term care early is like having a fire extinguisher at home - most of us hope never to use it.

But if you need it, you’ll be glad it’s there.

👉 If you live in England or Wales and your assets are above the Government’s Upper Savings Threshold, you’ll need to fund the cost of living in a care home and some of the care provided.

👉 Provision can be made over the years through saving and investing but planning for the unexpected is just as important.

👉 If care is needed suddenly, there are still steps we can take including working alongside your solicitor to help with arrangements such as Lasting Powers of Attorney.

These aren’t easy conversations but planning ahead can take pressure off you and your family when it matters most.

A fun one for a Tuesday…

For some people it’s starting a pension earlier, for others it’s saving regularly or simply asking for advice. There’s no wrong answer but sharing might help someone else think about their own future.

I’ve been out visiting clients in Dover and Wye, sitting down with them, reviewing their plans and helping with a few things that needed sorting.

It’s one of the parts of the job I enjoy most.

Emails and phone calls are useful but sometimes you can’t beat sitting around a table, having a good conversation and working through things.

Being an Independent Financial Adviser isn’t just about what happens in the office. If a client needs my help, I’m always happy to get out and see them.

Although I’m quite looking forward to a day without the car tomorrow!

Six weeks to go 📅

The Autumn Budget is getting closer and that means we're entering the part of the year where speculation starts to gather pace.

✅ Pensions.
✅ Tax.
✅ Inheritance Tax.
✅ Investments.

There will be plenty of headlines between now and Budget Day but my approach remains the same.

Don't make important financial decisions based on rumours.

Once the Budget has been delivered and we know the facts, we can look at what has actually changed and more importantly, whether any of it affects you.

Today marks 25 years since the attacks of September 11th, 2001.

A day that changed the world and one that so many of us can still remember vividly.

Today, we remember the 2,977 people who lost their lives, those who were injured, the emergency services who ran towards danger, and all the families and loved ones whose lives were changed forever.

25 years on, we remember them.

Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the events of that day.
