Sorry… rant incoming......
But this kind of behaviour in recruitment needs to be called out.
I’m usually pretty calm, level-headed, and when there’s pushback on a fee, I take the time to explain it properly.
Nine times out of ten, it comes down to misunderstanding not really knowing how recruitment works, when a fee is due, or the contract they’ve entered into.
That’s fine. That’s fixable, that's a conversation to educate, explain, have a rational conversation....
But my latest situation?
It genuinely made my BLOOD BOIL.
You had a price for the candidate.
You accepted the candidate knowing that price.
And now... you don’t WANT to pay it?
Let’s put that into a real-world scenario…
You take your car to a garage.
They assess the work, tell you the cost, and you agree.
They fix the car. You drive away happy.
Then when it’s time to pay, you say:
“Actually… I’ve decided I don't want to pay that price, I'm happy to pay you something though.....”
That wouldn’t fly. The work was done. The price was agreed.
Candidate still there, still happy, doing a great job.
Somehow in recruitment, this behaviour is becoming more common, delay, ignore, then try to renegotiate after the value has already been delivered and then say "YOU EITHER ACCEPT A REDUCED PRICE OR I WILL NEVER USE YOUR COMPANY AGAIN"!
NO! JUST NO!
Please read this and see what happened and tell me I'm not the only one who feels this passionately, this needs to stop. Recruiters are being undervalued for the work they do, and it’s incredibly frustrating.
