We are pleased to announce the Translation Fund is open for a new round, from 1 June 2026. This fund, supported by Creative Scotland, offers financial support to international publishers seeking to translate Scottish writers.

The fund is now in its eleventh year, and during this time has supported 272 publishers, with titles from Scottish authors going into 42 languages.

Priority is given to the translation of contemporary literature, including fiction, non-fiction, poetry, writing for children and graphic novels. And the assessment criteria include the merit of the work to be translated, the financial need of the publisher, the track record of publisher and translator, and the proposed marketing plan. The panel also look for passion and enthusiasm for the work selected.

It is a highly competitive fund which not only enables Scottish writing to travel into new languages and territories but allows for connections to be made between international publishers, Scottish publishers, agents and writers.

The Publishing Scotland Fellowship, taking place this August, will see 10 Fellows coming to Edinburgh to enjoy a week of business networking and hearing about new Scottish titles with a view to buying rights. These interactions often develop into mutually beneficial publishing deals, translations and long-term professional relationships.

The information on the translation fund and how to apply is here.
