days, 4 events. Maybe that was a bit of a stretch!

This week, on top of some very exciting things going on behind the scenes, I managed to get along to 4 events.

Wednesday morning kicked things off with HC Business Connect at HEX at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park Ltd. This was my first Harrison College event (beyond winning the golf day earlier this year...) and a real insight into the different ways businesses can help young people flourish and get the same opportunities as everybody else.

Fast forward to Wednesday evening and the HSR Law Solicitors padel tournament at Padel Master. 2 hours, no breaks. The standard of play was something else - I was run ragged and my body was feeling it when I woke up yesterday.

Thursday brought the SixConsult evening at Bawtry Hall. A really relaxed one - good food, good drink and good conversation. I managed to speak to a lot more people this time round.

Which brings us to today, the Plant-Fit / JCB event over at Lake Y featuring the new JCB 3CX. I was not expecting to be driving a JCB around the lake, but it was definitely fun! Uncharacteristically I missed out on the padel tournament this time.

A big thank you to everyone who organised and hosted - it’s been a brilliant few days.

Now I’m about to set off for a very much needed family weekend away.

“I can just invest it myself.”

Yes you can.. and it’ll probably cost you less.

Personal finance is everywhere now, YouTube, podcasts, apps, the lot. If all you need is an ISA or a pension, you don’t need me.

But life doesn’t usually stay that simple. Once there’s a business involved, your personal and business finances start to overlap, and every decision affects something else. You need a plan.

That’s where I can really help. To make sure all the pieces work together, and keep your plan on track as the business, the family and the rules change.

It’s not just a pension review and a cup of tea...

I’ve particularly enjoyed my conversations today with clients and just wanted to share a summary of how I actually help real life people.

This is not advice in any form, just for informational (and curiosity) purposes only.

Happy Birthday Example Marketing

Last night I had the privilege of an invite to Aux Bon Vivant in Sheffield to celebrate Example’s 4th Birthday.

I don’t actually remember what I was doing 4 years ago whilst Elliot Ghali💬 was setting up the business, but given we’d just brought Charlie home every day was documented on camera, so I can tell you Charlie had woken me up extra early to watch the Japanese Grand Prix..

A bit disappointed as normally you get party bags at 4th birthday parties, but here’s to many more 🥳

This morning I attended the Doncaster Chamber of Commerce 'Your City, Your Say' discussion around Environmental Sustainability.

A lot of the conversation was rightly around the economical benefits of re-using and re-cycling, as well as the grants available to SMEs in adopting sustainable policies within their businesses.

Whenever I'm at networking events talking to other SMEs, everybody is extremely busy right now and it doesn't look like that will change any time soon.

Yes, economical benefits are important, but how much time do the leaders of SMEs have available to them to create and adopt sustainability policies and how much time would that sacrifice from doing their normal day job?

It will be interesting to see how those conversations and thoughts from the Council will develop over time.

One of the many privileges of my particular role as trustee at Active Fusion is seeing ideas go from a passing thought to a full-blown event. (There are a few that don’t make it that far)

Last night was one that did. An idea discussed for a while, and in typical Lindsy James fashion, committed to until it became a success.

What a night - having the local business community in one room, celebrating together for a good cause.

You may have seen on the news yesterday that Andy Burnham talked about the State Pension at the Labour Conference.

In short, he's planning to change the state pension triple lock from April 2030.

These slides should help you understand what was actually said (and what it doesn't mean)

Financial planning has become a buzzword in recent years, but my dad was doing it 15-20 years ago, before it was cool. (Albeit with spreadsheets and not a piece of software)

Being able to learn that way of working has meant I’ve been able to build my business around that from day one.
