Companies House and the Intellectual Property Office (IPO) are asking businesses to take special care of misleading requests for payment sent by fraudulent organisations.

Invoices are being sent to companies that request payment for Companies House and IPO services. They may be posted to a company’s registered office address or sent by email.

The invoices request payment for services at inflated prices that are available for a much lower fee, or even free of charge, directly from legitimate sources.

The government has published a major Construction Products Reform White Paper, setting out plans to tighten the regulation of materials used in the building industry. The proposals are a direct response to the findings of the Grenfell Tower Inquiry.

At the heart of the new plans is a requirement that all construction products must be properly assessed for safety before they can be used. A consultation is underway, with secondary legislation expected later this year.

Making Tax Digital ( ) for Income Tax is now live, having come into force from 6 April 2026. This marks a significant shift in how self-employed individuals and those with income from property report their income to HMRC, and it is already impacting a substantial number of taxpayers.

The new regime currently applies to those with combined business and/or property income exceeding £50,000 per annum (based on total takings, not net profit). HMRC estimates that around 860,000 individuals have been brought into MTD from April 2026.

* Preparing Registered Providers for the RRA: What Social Landlords Need to Know Before Implementation

Our FREE regular (and very popular) Don Robbie and Linda Selvey-Cobb OBE online information session for landlords will be held via MS TEAMS on 15th May 2026 at 12noon for one hour

The Renters’ Rights Act 2026 represents the most significant structural change to the private rented sector in England in a generation. Although it is framed politically as a tenant protection measure, for landlords it is better understood as a complete redesign of how assured tenancies operate, how possession is regained, and how rental income risk is managed.
