At Pension App, our Transfer Specialists help customers bring their pensions into one clear place. We spoke with James to learn more about his role, his journey and why he enjoys helping people feel informed and confident about their pension savings.

James began his career as a primary school teacher before moving into account management, roles that strengthened his communication, patience and relationship skills. Retraining into financial services led him to Pension App, where those strengths now support customers throughout the transfer process.

A typical day involves monitoring transfer progress, speaking with pension providers and keeping customers updated on what has been found and where things stand. The transfers team may not be the ones locating pensions directly, but they are the bridge between the process and the person, turning complex progress into clear updates.

For James, the most rewarding moments are when he can confirm a pension for a customer, especially when it is one they had forgotten about. That clarity and reassurance is what makes the work meaningful.

What many people do not see is the level of behind the scenes work. Provider responses, admin checks and staged processing all take time. Customers see progress in updates, but each notification represents dedicated work in the background to move things forward.

New Budget Update: What You Need To Know

The Chancellor has announced a wide range of tax and spending changes in the new Budget. Most headline tax rates stay the same, but frozen thresholds and adjustments to savings, wages and investment income mean many people will see gradual changes over time.

One of the most important updates for pension savers is the change to salary sacrifice.

Pensions: salary sacrifice perk capped 👇

From April 2029, National Insurance will be charged on any pension contribution made through salary sacrifice above 2000 pounds a year.

This means:
🔹The first 2000 pounds a year paid into a pension through salary sacrifice will still receive the NI saving
🔹 Anything above that will be treated like normal pay for NI purposes
🔹The perk becomes smaller for people making larger pension contributions
Who this affects
🔹 Employees who contribute more than 2000 pounds a year through salary sacrifice, often higher earners or those making extra contributions

The Financial Services Compensation Scheme is the UKs independent protection service for customers of financial firms. If a regulated provider goes out of business and cannot meet its obligations, the FSCS can step in to protect your money.

For pensions, this usually means:
• If your pension provider fails, the FSCS can typically protect one hundred percent of your pension with a limit of up to £85,000..
• If an investment firm that managed part of your pension collapses, you may also be covered depending on the circumstances.
• You do not need to apply for protection as it happens automatically if the FSCS decides you are eligible.
