Very often, people’s first response is, "My insurance company’s assessor will take care of it”. What this really means is that a “loss adjuster”, acting for the insurance company has been instructed to visit them. But what you’re perhaps unaware of is that the loss adjuster acts on the insurance company’s behalf with their interests in mind – they don’t get paid to ensure you get your full claim entitlement!

Last week, I mentioned the importance of having the right level of cover for your property. When setting the figure for how much to insure the building, it is important to take into account not only costs to rebuild the property but also costs to demolish it, should that be required. Also, surveyors costs and any cost that may be incurred from adhering to certain building regulations. If you only had buildings insurance would it cover your alternative accommodation for however long the repairs may take?
