West Cheshire Credit Union Ltd is a not-for-profit savings & loans co-operative established in 2004. Since that time we have grown significantly and now covering the whole of Cheshire West & Chester, Cheshire East and Flintshire. Credit unions aim to help you take control of your money by encouraging you to save what you can and borrow only what you can afford to repay. In essence, they're savings

and loan co-operatives, where the members pool their savings to lend to one another and because it is a mutual cooperative, loans are affordable and flexible. All of this is done in a ‘not-for-profit’ way, so the cash is only used to run the services and reward the members, and not to pay outside shareholders, like most other financial institutions. Membership of West Cheshire Credit Union is open to anyone who lives, works, studies or volunteers within West Cheshire, East Cheshire or Flintshire. The simplest way to join the credit union family is by completing our online membership application which is available at www.wccu.co.uk. If you do not have access to the internet you can call us on Chester 01244 399006 and we can post an application out to you. Our telephone lines are open Monday to Friday between 10am and 2pm. The West Cheshire Credit Union is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and the Prudential Regulation Authority (FRN 227415). The regulation is the same as for other banks and building societies, requiring robust financial systems, training of staff, internal/external audit systems and insurance policies that protect member’s savings. Members’ savings are protected against business failure by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme up to £85,000. As the limit of savings held with West Cheshire Credit Union is set at £15,000 ample cover is provided.

West Cheshire Credit Union Outreach Officer (30 hours), Crewe and surrounding area.

Purpose of the Role

The Credit Union Outreach Officer is responsible for promoting the services of the credit union within the local community, increasing membership, building partnerships, and improving financial awareness. The role focuses on community engagement, member recruitment, and supporting financial inclusion initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Promote credit union products and services to individuals, schools, businesses, and community groups
• Recruit new members and support membership growth targets
• Organise community outreach events, workshops, and promotional campaigns
• Deliver financial education sessions on budgeting, saving, loans, and responsible borrowing
• Build strong relationships with local organisations, employers, and community leaders
• Represent the credit union at local events, fairs, and meetings
• Respond to enquiries from potential and existing members
• Support marketing and social media activities to increase awareness
• Maintain accurate records of outreach activities and member engagement
• Work with internal teams to identify opportunities for community partnerships and growth

Skills and Experience

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to engage confidently with diverse communities
• Good organisational and time-management abilities
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Full UK drivers licence
• Experience in community outreach, financial services, sales, or customer engagement
• Knowledge of credit unions and financial inclusion services
• Experience delivering presentations or workshops

Working Conditions

• Office and community-based role
• Some evening or weekend work may be required for events
• Travel within the local area will be necessary

Duties

• Visiting local employers to promote payroll savings schemes
• Running budgeting workshops in schools or community centres
• Supporting campaigns to encourage saving and responsible borrowing
• Assisting members with understanding credit union services

About the Role

As our Community Outreach Officer, you will:

• Build strong partnerships with local employers, community groups and organisations

• Act as a trusted ambassador for ethical, community-based finance

This is a people-focused role where your enthusiasm and initiative will directly support individuals and families across Crewe.

£14,040 salary (FTE £25,974)

Starting rate of £13.50 per hour

About the Role
As an Outreach Officer, you will be the face of West Cheshire Credit Union in your local area. Working flexibly across 20 hours per week, you will build relationships, raise awareness, and help people understand how the Credit Union can support them.

You’ll work within either:

Cheshire West & Chester, or Crewe and surrounding areas

Your work will directly support individuals, families, community groups, and partner organisations.

Attending community events, forums, and local meetings

Building relationships with local organisations, employers, and support services

Raising awareness of savings, loans, and ethical financial alternatives

Supporting new members to understand and access our services

Acting as an ambassador for the Credit Union’s values and mission

Confident engaging with people from all walks of life

A strong communicator with a friendly, approachable manner

Well-organised and able to work independently

Knowledgeable about the local area (or keen to learn)
