Cheshire Community Bank

Cheshire Community Bank Here for our community πŸ’›
Offering fair loans and simple savings for people across Cheshire and Flintshire. No hidden fees - just real support when you need it.

West Cheshire Credit Union Ltd is a not-for-profit savings & loans co-operative established in 2004. Since that time we have grown significantly and now covering the whole of Cheshire West & Chester, Cheshire East and Flintshire. Credit unions aim to help you take control of your money by encouraging you to save what you can and borrow only what you can afford to repay. In essence, they're savings

and loan co-operatives, where the members pool their savings to lend to one another and because it is a mutual cooperative, loans are affordable and flexible. All of this is done in a β€˜not-for-profit’ way, so the cash is only used to run the services and reward the members, and not to pay outside shareholders, like most other financial institutions. Membership of West Cheshire Credit Union is open to anyone who lives, works, studies or volunteers within West Cheshire, East Cheshire or Flintshire. The simplest way to join the credit union family is by completing our online membership application which is available at www.wccu.co.uk. If you do not have access to the internet you can call us on Chester 01244 399006 and we can post an application out to you. Our telephone lines are open Monday to Friday between 10am and 2pm. The West Cheshire Credit Union is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and the Prudential Regulation Authority (FRN 227415). The regulation is the same as for other banks and building societies, requiring robust financial systems, training of staff, internal/external audit systems and insurance policies that protect member’s savings. Members’ savings are protected against business failure by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme up to Β£85,000. As the limit of savings held with West Cheshire Credit Union is set at Β£15,000 ample cover is provided.

🚫 MYTH: " There's no point saving if I can only afford a small amount."

The truth? Every little bit counts.

Saving just Β£5 a week adds up to Β£260 over a year. But it's not only about the amount - getting into the habit of saving regularly can help you build a financial cushion over time.

Whether it's Β£1, Β£5 or Β£20, start with what feels manageable for you. Small steps can make a real difference. πŸ’š

At Cheshire Community Bank, we're here to help people across Cheshire and Flintshire save, borrow and build brighter financial futures.

MYTH: "One missed payment won't make any difference."

It's easy to think one missed payment won't make much difference - but it can.

If a payment is missed, you could face late fees or charges, lose a promotional rate, and depending on the type of account and how the lender reports it, it could also appear on your credit report and affect your ability to borrow in the future.

The good news? If you realise you've missed a payment, don't ignore it.

βœ”Make the payment as soon as you can.
βœ” Contact the provider if you're struggling to pay.
βœ” Check weather you can set up a Direct Debit or reminder to help prevent it happening again.

And remember: asking help early is always better than waiting for the problem to grow.

MYTH: "Checking your own credit score lowers it."

This is one of the most common myths we hear - but thankfully, it isn't true.

When you check your own credit score, it's called a soft search. Soft searches do not affect your credit score, so you can check it as often as you like.

The searches that can have impact are usually hard searches, which happen when you apply for certain types of credit, such as a loan or credit card.

Checking your credit score regularly can actually be a good habit. It helps you:

- Spot mistakes on your credit report
- Keep track of your financial health
- Understand where you stand before applying for credit

Have you ever believed this myth? What money myth should we bust next?

MYTH: "You need a lot of money to start saving."

The truth is that building a savings habit is often more important than the amount you start with.

Saving just a small amount regularly can help you build confidence, prepare for unexpected expenses and work towards future goals.

Whether it's Β£2, Β£5 or Β£10 a week, every step counts.

The most important thing is getting started.

What's the best money advice you've ever been given?
