Penguin’s 🐧

GLOOP! 🤍🥄

Today in Penguin’s we have been exploring the Gloop and loose parts! This led on from the children’s interest in the loose parts and messy play. Throughout we used all the different loose parts to explore the gloop using the spoon to lift, scoop and transport the gloop around too. The children used the loose parts to enhance their gloop and enhance their play ideas too. We used our counting skills to count up the items we had used too. The children spoke throughout about their ideas and what they have added to the gloop.

The INTENT of this activity was to allow the children to get messy, explore loose parts and use their imagination. The ladies IMPLEMENTED this throughout by having a range of loose parts for the children to use. The IMPACT of this activity was that the children were able to get creative and express themselves through their play.

All in all we have had a fabulous day exploring the gloop and making lots of memories, we can’t wait to tell you all about it later.

🦉 Owls

🖨️ Typewriter Office: Finding Our Letters & Early Writing ✏️

Today in Owls, the children explored a Typewriter Office Activity, practising early writing skills, recognising letters in their names, and becoming familiar with using pencils and paper. We set up the room to look like a real office, complete with a typewriter, notepads, pencils, envelopes and name cards. The children searched for the letters in their names on the typewriter keys, pressed them with purpose, and then had a go at writing those same letters on paper.

The intent of this activity was to support children’s letter recognition, early writing development, and confidence using mark‑making tools. We wanted them to explore the letters in their own names, understand how print works, and practise holding and using a pencil with increasing control. Setting up an office environment encouraged imaginative play and helped children feel like “real workers” completing important tasks.

The ladies implemented this by creating an office station with a typewriter, pencils, paper, clipboards, envelopes and name cards. Children looked closely at the letters in their names, searched for matching keys on the typewriter, and pressed them to “type” their letters. They then practised forming those letters on paper, developing pencil grip, hand strength and control. Throughout the activity, children chatted about their “office jobs,” asked for help finding letters, and proudly showed their written work.

The impact was seen in the children’s growing confidence with mark‑making, letter recognition, and fine motor development. They strengthened their understanding of print by matching typed letters to written ones, improved coordination through pencil use, and developed communication skills as they shared their office tasks with friends. This purposeful, imaginative activity supported meaningful early literacy learning.

🦖 Dinosaur Playdough 🦕

Today in Owls, the children took part in a sensory activity, with play-dough and dinosaurs, exploring mark making, teamwork and communication. We set up a playdough station with dinosaurs, rolling pins and cutters. The children practised mark making with the dinosaurs, sharing the play-dough and dinosaurs and talking about what they could feel and make. They talked about turn taking, who would go first and how we could share fairly.

The intent of this activity was to support children’s independence, communication skills and teamwork. We wanted them to explore what they can feel and make with the play-dough. The activity also encouraged social interaction, helping children talk about what they could make and what dinosaurs there were, telling each other the names of the dinosaurs and printing their marks into the play-dough.

The ladies implemented this by setting up a dinosaurs, play-dough and tools. Children felt the play-dough, rolled it out, made marks and explored the dinosaurs and dinosaur book. They used tools such as brushes and rolling pins, strengthening coordination and control. Throughout the activity, children engaged in conversations, practising kindness and turn‑taking.

The impact was seen in the children’s growing empathy, confidence and social skills. They developed communication skills through conversations about what they could feel, fine motor skills through rolling, touching and stamping in the playdough, and real world understanding as they explored taking turns and sharing toys out fairly. The activity supported caring behaviour and encouraged gentle, thoughtful interactions within the group.

Penguin’s 🐧

Welcome to a world full of colour…🌈✨🎀

Today in penguins we explored all the different colours! The ladies got us the light up board along with the coloured shapes and colour wands to explore all of the colours. We used our fine motor skills to press on the small buttons so the board would light up and change colours as well as stacking the shapes on top of each other so we could make new colours by them being on top of each other. We helped our friends by showing them what wands we had and put them in front of each other’s faces to see each other in a different colour! We even tried to match the coloured ones too the colour we had luck to light up the board, so we were using our problem solving skills.🌈✨🎀

The INTENT of this activity was to allow the children to explore all the colours and talk to the ladies and their friends about what they could see while using the imaginative play and creativity skills to make new colours by layering on top of each other. The ladies IMPLEMENTED this by having lots of different coloured resources the at the children could pick from and so they could pick their own colour and see it light up. The IMPACT of this activity was that the children were able develop their fine motor skills by stacking, holding and pressing buttons, to learn names of the colours they could see, so they could interact and talk to their friends about what they could see and to use their knowledge to match colours together.🌈✨🎀

All in all the children had an amazing day exploring how the light up board worked, learning names of the colours they may not of known and talking the ladies and their friends about which one was their favourite.🌈✨🎀

Ducklings 🐥

Mark making with paint sticks 🎨

This morning our ducklings have been following on with their interest in mark making whilst in the garden yesterday, by mark making with the paint sticks.
The children were provided with a range of different mark making tools and some paper on the table, with the paint sticks proving the biggest hit.

🔴They used their fine motor physical skills to remove the lids from their paint stick and put them back on again.
🟢Pressed the paint sticks down on the paper to make marks, also supporting their physical skills.
🟠Child AW made marks on her paper with a purple paint stick before picking her paper up and walking across the room to show Angel her picture, then holding it up proudly for me to see too, showing pride in what she had created.
🟣They matched the lids back to the correct paint stick showing their colour matching skills.
🟡Aswell as watching what each other was doing during play and gaining ideas from other children.
🔵We talked about the colours the children were using, promoting their understanding of colour names.

Penguin’s 🐧

1,2,3…. What can you use to build a tower? 🔢

Today in Penguin’s we have been building towers using a wide range of different resources from building blocks, to loose parts and natural resources too. This activity led on from the children’s interest in building and counting, this activity was a great opportunity for the children to develop their counting skills too. Throughout the children were able to make towers of all different shapes and sizes and did a great job making some big towers. Whilst doing so the children used their problem solving skills to help them figure out ways to balance the blocks and keep their towers up. Throughout we were counting together to see how tall we could make our towers too, encouraging the children to get involved and count with us also.

The INTENT of this activity as to allow the children develop an interest, enhance their counting skills and using their physical skills to. The ladies IMPLEMENTED this throughout by encouraging the children to get involved and use the wide range of resources to build with too. The IMPACT of this activity was that the children were able to develop their counting skills, physical skills and imagination too.

All in all we have had a fabulous day building our towers and we can’t wait to tell you all about it later! 🥰

👶 Caring for Our Baby Dolls 🤍
Today in Owls, the children took part in a Baby Doll Care Activity, exploring real‑life skills, early communication and fine motor development. We set up a nurturing play station with a baby doll blankets, bottles, wipes, nappies. The children practised looking after their babies by feeding them, wrapping them in blankets, feeding them, and rocking them to sleep. They talked about what their baby needed next to their friends.

The intent of this activity was to support children’s independence, empathy, and understanding of real‑world care routines. We wanted them to explore how to look after others, practise gentle hands, and build confidence around babies. The activity also encouraged social interaction, helping children talk about their baby dolls and share their ideas with peers.

The ladies implemented this by setting up a baby care station with dolls, blankets, bottles, wipes, and nappies. Children fed their babies, wrapped them carefully, and talked about what their baby might need — sleep, food, cuddles or a clean nappy. They used one‑handed tools such as brushes and bottles, strengthening coordination and control. Throughout the activity, children engaged in role‑play conversations, practising kindness and turn‑taking.

The impact was seen in the children’s growing empathy, confidence and social skills.They developed communication skills through role play conversations, fine motor skills through dressing, feeding and brushing, and real world understanding as they explored how to care for a baby. ☕ Coffee Station & Sharing with Friends 🤎
Today in Owls, the children took part in a Coffee Making Activity, exploring real life skills, early maths and fine motor development. We set up a station with cups, spoons, pinchers, pep-pets , loose parts and coffee granules. The children carefully counted how many spoons of coffee they needed, stirred their mixtures using one‑handed tools, and then proudly shared their finished drinks with their friends (pretend play coffee, of course!).
The intent of this activity was to support children’s independence, early mathematical thinking, and fine motor skills. We wanted them to practise counting, explore real‑world processes, and build confidence using tools such as spoons, pep-pets and pinchers. The activity also encouraged kindness and social interaction as they made and offered coffee to their peers.
The ladies implemented this by setting up a coffee making station with cups, spoons, pep-pets, pinchers and coffee granules. Children counted out their spoons of coffee, stirred carefully, and talked about how the mixture changed. They used one‑handed tools to scoop and mix, strengthening coordination and control. Once their coffee was ready, they shared it with friends, practising turn‑taking and communication.
The impact of this activity was seen in the children’s growing independence, confidence and social awareness. They developed early maths skills through counting spoons, fine motor skills through scooping and stirring, and communication skills as they offered their creations to others.

Penguin’s 🐧

It’s… play dough time! What will you add to your play dough today?🥰🩷✨

Today in penguins we explored the play dough along with the different resources we had out for the children to touch, smell and add to our coloured play dough. This led from a child’s interest from them going to the kitchen and saying what they could make from play dough and asking other children what they would put inside. This then led the ladies to make play-dough and add lots of different loose parts resources so they could feel new textures along with using different sizes and shapes, and seeing what patterns it might make in the play dough.🥰🩷✨

The INTENT of this activity was to allow the children to explore loose parts, and learn new textures and smells.The ladies IMPLEMENTED this throughout having lots of different colours and shapes out for the children to feel and show their friends what they could see.The IMPACT of this activity was that the children were able to develop their creativity, fine motor skills and imagination.🥰🩷✨

All in all the children had a fabulous day exploring new textures in their hands and showing their friends why patterns and shapes they could make inside the colourful play dough!🥰🩷✨

🦉 Owls

🎺Little Musicians 🎶

Today in Owls, the children explored musical instruments. The ladies set out lots of different instruments and song tiles. The children played lots of different instruments, sang songs that they chose and used the instruments to make tunes for their songs. They were encouraged to explore all of the instruments and talk about what sort of sounds they make, choose songs with the tiles and share favourite songs and instruments with one another.

The intent of this activity was to support children’s independence, motor skills, literacy and team work. We wanted them to explore different songs and instruments, talk about what songs make them feel, what their favourite songs are and work together to sing and make tunes.

The ladies implemented this activity by providing the children with lots of instruments and song tiles. The children identified what instruments we had, telling the ladies that there were trumpets, drums and shakers. They helped one another to recognise these instruments, play them and identify what kind of sounds they made, lots of the children used words such as quiet, loud and bang to describe the instruments. Some children even compared the size of the instruments, and spent time sharing their favourite songs.

The impact of this activity was seen in the children’s gaining motor skills, literacy, and social communication. They showed independence in choosing which instruments to play, curiosity in exploring different songs and sounds, and confidence in singing their favourite songs and sharing stories about them. Working together by sharing instruments also strengthened their social skills.
