But when did you last talk about your pensions?

Research suggests fewer than one in five non-retired people have discussed their pension or retirement plans with their partner.

Yet retirement is one of the biggest financial transitions a couple will face.

It's not just about how much you've both saved. It's about understanding where your retirement income will come from, how you'll use your savings and what happens financially if one of you dies.

And importantly, making sure both partners understand the arrangements, rather than leaving everything to one person.

A conversation today could help avoid uncertainty and difficult decisions later.

Our latest article explores why couples should plan for retirement together and the important questions worth discussing.

Perhaps it would be to start saving earlier. To plan more carefully. Or to think beyond the day you stop working.

New research suggests many retirees wish they had done things differently.

• 31% say their standard of living is worse than before retirement.
• 30% regret not saving regularly during their working lives.
• 29% wish they had started pension saving earlier.

But retirement planning isn't just about how much you save. It's also about understanding how to turn those savings into an income that could need to last for decades.

The experiences of today's retirees offer valuable lessons for those still preparing for life after work.

Our latest article explores what retirees wish they'd known and how planning ahead could help you avoid similar regrets.

You wrote a Will. Job done?

Not necessarily.

Think about what might have changed since you signed it.
• A marriage or divorce.
• A new child or grandchild.
• A house move.
• Changes to your finances.

Different relationships with beneficiaries or executors.

A Will written years ago may still be legally valid while no longer reflecting the wishes you have today.

And if you don't have one at all, the rules of intestacy determine how your estate is distributed, which may be particularly important for unmarried couples who do not have the same automatic inheritance rights as spouses and civil partners.

A Will should evolve as your life does.

Our latest article looks at what a Will can protect, the decisions it allows you to make and why reviewing it regularly matters.

Having a pension isn't the same as having a retirement plan.

You might know the value of your pension pot.

But do you know what lifestyle it could actually provide?

Or how much you'll need each month? Where your income will come from? How you'll take money from your pension tax-efficiently? What happens if markets fall or you live longer than expected?

Those are very different questions.

Retirement planning is about connecting the money you've accumulated with the life you want it to fund.

And if there is a gap between the two, discovering it earlier gives you something incredibly valuable:

Time to do something about it.

Our latest article explores five questions that can help you understand whether your finances and future plans are really aligned.

Think every gift has to survive the seven-year rule to escape Inheritance Tax?

Not necessarily.

There is a lesser-known exemption called ‘normal expenditure out of income’.

If you regularly have income left over after maintaining your usual standard of living, qualifying gifts made from that surplus may be immediately exempt from IHT.

There are three important conditions:
• It must come from income: Not existing savings or other capital.
• It should be regular: There needs to be a recognisable pattern of gifting
• It must be affordable: The gifts cannot leave you unable to maintain your normal lifestyle

Good record-keeping matters too, as your executors may eventually need to demonstrate that the exemption applied.

Our latest article explains how the rules work and why this often-overlooked exemption could form part of wider family wealth planning

Picture your first Monday in retirement.
There’s no commute. No meetings. No alarm set for work.

So, what do you do instead?

Perhaps retirement means travelling more. Learning something new.

Volunteering. Spending more time with family. Working occasionally because you enjoy it. Or simply having the freedom to slow down.

Retirement planning isn't only about answering “Will I have enough?”

It’s also about asking “What do I want my life to look like?”

Once you understand that, your pensions, savings and investments can be planned around the lifestyle you actually want to create.

Our latest article explores practical ideas for building a retirement with purpose, flexibility and plenty to look forward to.

Sometimes the most caring conversations are the ones we would rather avoid.

• What should happen if you can no longer make decisions for yourself?
• Who would you trust to act on your behalf?
• And would they truly know what you would want?

Putting a Power of Attorney or estate plan in place is important. But paperwork can only go so far.

Talking openly about your values, priorities and wishes can give the people closest to you something equally valuable: clarity.

It means that if they ever have to make a difficult decision on your behalf, they are not left guessing at a time when emotions are already running high.

Planning ahead isn't about expecting the worst. It is about making difficult moments a little easier for the people you love.

£31.1 billion.

That’s the estimated value sitting in almost 3.3 million lost pension pots across the UK.

Changing jobs throughout your career can leave you with pensions spread across different providers, and over time, some can become surprisingly easy to lose track of.

So, where do you start?

Find them. Track down pensions from previous employers.

Review them. Understand their value, charges, investments and any valuable benefits attached.

Then decide. Bringing pensions together could make retirement planning simpler, but transferring isn’t always the right option.

Our latest article explores how pension consolidation works, what to consider before transferring and why getting a complete picture of your retirement savings matters.

One family. Three generations. Three different financial priorities.

👧 Children and grandchildren
Building an early financial foundation through savings, investments and long-term planning.

👨‍👩‍👧 Parents
Balancing retirement savings with mortgages, everyday costs and helping the next generation.

👴 Grandparents
Protecting accumulated wealth and considering how it can be passed on efficiently.

Good financial planning can connect all three.

Rather than viewing each generation's finances separately, families can consider how savings, pensions, investments, gifting and estate planning work together over the long term.

The aim isn't simply to pass on wealth. It's to create greater financial security and opportunity across the family.
