STRATEGY: 2027 TAX CHANGES šŸ‡¬šŸ‡§

I’ve worked in finance for a decade.

And tax changes always happen.

And like clockwork, when the rules change, so does behaviour.

With the right plan in place, none of these changes need to be anywhere near as consequential as they’re made out to be.

When the law changes so should your strategy.

MY (HOT) TAKE…

First it’s worth saying I think it’s important that working parents have financial independence - that goes without saying.

Your contribution to the household should be reflected.

However, pension tax relief doesn’t work on a household basis.

This is a problem with the system.

It means that for a working parent earning £120k - a £1000 pension contribution will effectively claw back 60% tax.

And it if was taken as income and paid into the non-working parents pension instead - well that’d only get 20% relief.

So you’ve got to weigh up the cost of achieving financial independence through the pension logically in my view.

It could, for example, make sense for the stay at home parent to look after the ISAs.

It’s also worth bearing in mind that this is a massive benefit to business owner couples - being able to spread things more evenly.

This is the most expensive mistake you could make.

But it won’t cost you money…

What’s your view on this?

It might be a bit controversial to say this…

But I speak to people every week on 6 figures living month to month.

It isn’t what it used to be.

Sadly car repairs, boiler breakdowns and unexpected bills end up on credit card.

COAST FIRE…

It sounds great.

And the concept does make sense.

The problem I have are the assumptions behind it.

Often 8% net returns - that works based on 10 years of market data - not so much when you look further back.

Here I put it to the test…

Let me know your thoughts.
