More than half of people considering moving home say their main reason for doing so is to lower their mortgage payments, a survey by the Building Societies Association (BSA) revealed

It added that lower mortgage rates may also be a factor as those who are moving would want to ensure that they got the best deal. Bank of England figures show that a two-year fixed 75 per cent loan to value mortgage priced at 1.86 per cent in December had fallen to 1.46 per cent in May.

Budget 2021 – Stamp Duty Holiday Extension Confirmed

The chancellor announced in his Budget today that the up-to-£500,000 "nil-rate band" for stamp duty will finish at the end of June, rather than the end of March, as planned.

The tax break was due to end on 31 March, but it will now end on 30 June.

After this date, the starting rate of stamp duty will be £250,000 until the end of September. Stamp duty will then return to the usual threshold, and will be paid on property sold for more than £125,000

Good News! Stamp Duty Holiday Extended.

The Times has today reported that Rishi Sunak will announce in his Budget next week that the stamp duty holiday will be extended from 31 March to the end of June.

Help to Buy Scheme extended by 2 months.

Due to delays caused by coronavirus, the Help to Buy scheme in England has been extended to 31st May 2021.

This extra two months gives both the home builders time to complete the new build and the buyers time to legally complete their purchase.

A new Help to Buy scheme, for first-time buyers only, is still due to start on 1st April 2021, this will run until 31st March 2023.

Last week, the Bank of England released statistics which found that mortgage approvals had reached the highest level since 2007 in the final few months of 2020.

Additionally, HMRC released its quarterly stamp duty statistics which showed there was a sustained increase in stamp duty transactions in the last quarter of 2020. This increase shows the stamp duty holiday has had a positive affect on the market place through these troubled times.
