On Thursday we were invited to Burnley FC in the Community's Turf Talk session, a weekly group for men over 50 who have experienced challenges with their mental health.
It’s a simple idea with a big impact: people coming together over a brew to share stories, connect, and remind each other they’re not alone.
The session was part of the Premier League's Inside Matters campaign, which raises awareness of mental health and encourages fans to check in on the wellbeing of others. We were joined by two Burnley Football Club first-team players, both really engaged, with plenty of experience in community visits.
During the Q&A, some of the focus was on mental health and wellbeing, including how the players personally look after their own. Flemming, for example, shared how missing a goal or not playing a match often takes a toll on him.
Hearing professionals at the top of their game be so open made the conversation relatable for everyone in the room. It was a powerful reminder that mental health affects us all, no matter what field we’re in.
At Financial Affairs, we’re proud to support initiatives like Turf Talk that encourage open conversations and break down stigma.
Because talking really does make a difference.
