📈The UK's inflation rate has risen to 3.5% in April, up from 2.6% in March - the highest since February 2023.

According to the BBC, this unexpected jump is mainly due to the rising household bills (especially water, council tax and energy), food costs, and travel expenses such as airfares and vehicle duties.

From a mortgage perspective, the latest inflation figures may cause the Bank of England to hold off on cutting interest rates, which had been widely expected in the coming months.

What does this mean for homeowners and buyers?
- Mortgage rates may stay higher for longer
- Those on variable/ tracker rates might not see any immediate relief, keeping repayments at current highs
- First-time buyers could face tougher affordability checks and fewer lower-rate deals in the short-term.
