Not sure how that happened, it seems like yesterday we took the plunge and set up our own company, and here we are...still going strong 20 years later. We have survived a credit crunch in 2008 and all the tubulence (it seems) ever since. In 2011 we set up an estate agency to compliment our business, which has grown steadily over the years, and is now one of the leading agents in Bromsgrove (Guest Estate Agents). Back to basics! I remember in my early 20's I did not really understand what a mortgage was, let alone what a mortgage broker did. Hopefully I do now. 😂

A mortgage is a loan that is secured against a property. Because it is secured against an asset that can be sold to get the money back (if the borrower does not pay), the lender is willing to lend a lot more than they would on an unsecured loan (e.g. a personal loan).

A mortgage broker's job is to find the best mortgage for a client. This means trying to get the best deal whilst ensuring it is likely to be accepted, so checking that it fits the lender's affordability and other criteria. Some brokers have more lender choice than others, and they should confirm this at outset, along with other terms such as broker fees that might be charged.

Clients can arrange a mortgage through a mortgage broker, or they can do their own research and arrange a mortgage directly, so why use a broker? I could give you a load of bullet points on this but this sums it up...tiling a bathroom seems easy but half a day into it you'll probably wish you'd asked a tiler to do it.
