Serving the local people of Bristol and South Gloucestershire is our number one priority at both a local and national level. There are six parliamentary constituencies within our area. Two of which have Conservative Members of Parliament. Jack Lopresti of Filton and Bradley Stoke and Chris Skidmore of Kingswood. The Conservative Party relies on support from individuals giving up their time and donating their money to help get Conservative councilors and MPs elected.

A number of residents have contacted me with concerns about reports that the Downend Morrisons Local and Post Office may be facing closure.

I have spoken with staff, who confirmed that a consultation is currently underway and that they expect to hear the outcome on 16th July.

It is obviously very worrying for those whose jobs are at risk, as well as for residents who rely on the Post Office and local shop, particularly as we no longer have a bank in the area.

I have written to Morrisons to seek clarification and to raise the concerns residents have shared with me.

Morrisons have said it's a "tough but necessary decision because of the UK government's policy choices such as the increase in the National living wage and National Insurance"

I will keep residents updated if I receive any further information.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ Today is the 82nd anniversary of D-Day.

We remember the courage of all those who fought against N**i tyranny for the freedoms we enjoy today.

We salute them, and honour their sacrifice.

Local Libraries Safe?

Proposals by the administration to cut Β£2.4M from the Libraries budget have been dropped. Cllr John Goulandris advises : β€œIt’s great news that funding for our libraries has not been slashed.

Both Sea Mills Library and Westbury Library will remain open. Our local libraries are more than books and computers - they are community hubs and community spaces.”

Cllr Henry Michallat adds : β€œ No doubt we will have the same battle about library cuts next year. Libraries really matter to residents and I will fight tooth and nail to keep both Sea Mills and Westbury Libraries fully open without any reduction in availability”.

Yet more houses planned for former airfield.

Government plans to designate Brabazon (the Filton Airfield) as a new town could cause massive problems for North Bristol.

"We don't have all the details yet," comments Cllr Mark Weston, "but the number of houses being built on the airfield could now easily top 10,000, up from the 6500 we already knew about. That is a lot of traffic hitting local roads."
"To make this announcement without any details is irresponsible in the extreme." Argues Cllr Bador Uddin. "As soon as we have any more information we will let residents know."
