Day 2 of the coin-flick challenge! 🪙☕️

Today, I want to talk about why we actually need to invest. Obviously, we all want to see our money grow, but the real enemy we are fighting is inflation. It’s quiet, it’s under the radar, but it is constantly eating away at our money if we leave it sitting idle.

Think about the humble Freddo. Back in the year 2000, a Freddo cost 10p. Today, they average about 35p.
That means if you kept a 10p coin in a drawer since 2000, it’s still legally worth 10p today—but its purchasing power has dropped by 71%. You can only buy a tiny fraction of a Freddo with it now (and trust me, the shops won’t let you bite a piece off).

Inflation means the cash we hold buys less over time. To protect your hard-earned money, you have to put it to work so it can grow above the rate of inflation.

Day 1 of trying to flick a coin into a mug to give away a free workshop ticket! 🪙☕️ (And yes, this might take a while…)

I wanted to start this challenge by being completely upfront about why I’m here making these videos.

First and foremost, I’m a maths teacher. I love my classroom and I love teaching. But before this, I worked in corporate financial advice—and honestly, it wasn’t for me.

What I did realize during that time is how many people are completely priced out, locked out, and overwhelmed by all the financial jargon. We aren’t taught this stuff at school, and that needs to change.

I want to make investing simple, friendly, and accessible for anyone who feels left out of the conversation.

Do I want to make a bit of extra cash from this side venture? Of course. Teachers don’t exactly make a fortune, and my wife and I hope to start a family one day. But the main driving force is my love for teaching people how to navigate their finances safely.

Hello 👋

My name is Leo Dennis, and I’m a local Maths teacher and qualified financial advisor who is looking to help as many people as possible understand money better.

I left the financial advice industry because I wanted to make more of a difference in the world. I was frustrated that only the already rich can afford financial advice and the rest of us just muddle through. The world of finance is full of jargon, intimidating and scary - so I decided to try and change that.

Being a maths teacher gives me so much fulfilment, and makes me fully appreciate the power of face to face education. So in my evenings and weekends, I want to help as many people as possible gain more confidence with their money.
