James and Heidi's story started some years ago through the world of rugby and the family-like connections the world of sport creates (Heidi and James' wife, also aptly named Heidi, played rugby together for a number of years). In 2018, Heidi approached James to launch a mental health programme at Bristol Bears Women, knowing that James had started his requalification to become a Counsellor. The pr

ogramme was set up in memory of a club player, Jen*, who sadly took her own life in 2017. Jen openly struggled with mental health issues throughout her life and her honesty about how it impacted her life opened the eyes of all those around her. She taught everyone that it was ok not to be ok. The programme was named after Jen's dog, Ripple, and the principle that mental health 'ripples' into all aspects of your life. Soon the confidential service (spearheaded by James) was providing a lifeline to many players and staff across the club. The service allowed members to discuss issues such as anxiety, relationships, stress, depression, financial issues, education pressures, injury, day to day worries and any issues that were affecting them. Ripples grew from strength to strength supporting in excess of 70 individuals across a space of four years. Ripples has now truly achieved its original 'ripple' effect with the launch of Ripples Wellbeing where Counselling, Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), Workplace Wellbeing and Keynote/event speaking has been added to the services provided.

Happy Feel Good Friday! ✨

Before the week ends, take a moment to reflect on something you're proud of. It could be a small win, a challenge you overcame, or simply showing up when things felt difficult.

The "Power Pose" is a simple technique that may help you feel more confident and prepared before a challenging situation.

Standing tall with an open, confident posture can help shift your mindset and encourage feelings of strength and self-belief. Combined with slow, deep breathing, it can also help calm nerves and reduce feelings of stress.

Next time you have a presentation, interview, exam, or important meeting, give it a try and see how you feel 💛

Self-care doesn’t always have to look big or complicated 💛

Sometimes it’s the small moments - taking a breath, going for a walk, resting, talking to someone, or simply slowing down - that can make the biggest difference to our wellbeing.

Never underestimate the power of small positive ripples 🌿✨

This year’s Mental Health Awareness Week theme is Take Action 🧠💛

Positive change doesn’t always have to be big. It could be checking in on a friend, taking time to rest, setting boundaries, joining your community, or reaching out for support when you need it.

Every small action has the power to create ripples - for ourselves and for others.

What action will you take this week? ✨

What if nature is more than just a pretty view?

In this beautiful new blog, Matt explores the deep connection between nature and wellbeing, from the calming effect of forests to the healing presence of water. In a world that feels constantly switched on, this is a gentle reminder that sometimes simply slowing down and reconnecting with the natural world can help us reconnect with ourselves.
