What does financial freedom mean to you?
Perhaps it's owning a home, retiring comfortably, supporting your children or having the security to make important life choices.
But opportunities to build that freedom are not equally distributed.
Historical ONS wealth research found that Black African-headed households were significantly more likely to be in the lowest wealth groups, with 79% in the bottom two-fifths of the household wealth distribution in 2016-2018.
These disparities can have consequences that extend well beyond someone's bank balance, influencing opportunities across generations.
This Black History Month, we're celebrating the contributions of Black communities and recognising the importance of improving financial inclusion.
Everyone should have the opportunity to work towards financial security and the freedom to shape their own future.
