Be ready for the 26/27 tax year in 2 minutes: Changes to Statutory Sick Pay (SSP)

The 26/27 tax year is fast approaching, and there are several updates that domestic staff employers need to know about in order to be ready for April 2026.

These are the changes to Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) that employers should be aware of:

🟣 From April 2026, Statutory Sick Pay will be paid from the first day of illness, instead of the fourth day.

🟣 The Lower Earnings Limit (LEL) will also be removed, so minimum earnings requirements for statutory payments will no longer apply.

🟣 The weekly rate of statutory Sick Pay (SSP) will be £123.25 or 80% of the employee’s average weekly earnings, whichever is lower.
