Good news if your DWP benefit payment is due on the August bank holiday!

If your payment is due on Monday 31 August, you should receive it a little earlier, on Friday 28 August instead.

This applies to DWP benefits including Universal Credit, State Pension and other eligible payments.

Just one thing to keep in mind: because you'll be paid early, your next payment will still arrive on its usual date, so you'll need to make this one last a little longer.

A quick reminder to check your payment date and plan ahead. We're here to help you make the most of your money.

What is nature maxxing? 🌿

You might have seen this phrase popping up online. “Nature maxxing” is all about getting outdoors, enjoying green spaces, and finding happiness in simple, low-cost activities.

It’s also a great reminder that saving money doesn’t have to mean missing out.

Try packing a lunch for a day out, taking a reusable water bottle, or exploring somewhere local instead of spending on expensive activities.

Little habits like these can help you make your money go further. 💛

Married or in a civil partnership?

You could be eligible for Marriage Allowance, a government scheme that helps some couples pay less Income Tax.

If one partner has some unused tax-free allowance (the amount you can earn before paying Income Tax), they may be able to transfer part of it to their spouse or civil partner.

If the receiving partner pays basic-rate Income Tax, they could save up to £252 in Income Tax each year.

Better still, if you've been eligible in previous years, you may be able to backdate your claim too.

As part of the Great British Summer Savings scheme, children aged 5–15 can travel free on participating local bus services across England throughout August.

The scheme also includes a temporary reduction in VAT on eligible family attractions, children's meals and selected entertainment, helping to make summer outings a little more affordable.

Whether you're heading to the park, visiting family or planning a day out, these savings could help your budget go a little further.

Check with your local bus operator and participating venues before you travel.

The Government is considering suspending import tariffs on 125 everyday essentials to help reduce the cost of living.

The proposals include products such as:

✔ Bread and crispbread
✔ Olive and vegetable oils
✔ Baked beans
✔ Fruit and vegetables
✔ Pasta and couscous
✔ Tuna
✔ Chocolate and biscuits

The aim is to reduce costs for retailers, who can then choose whether to pass those savings on to shoppers.

While there's no guarantee prices will fall, the proposals are designed to help make everyday shopping more affordable over time.

With family holidays often costing thousands of pounds, spreading the cost has become increasingly common.

But the most important question isn't whether borrowing is normal.

It's whether it's affordable for you.

Before borrowing, consider:

✔️ Can I comfortably afford the repayments?
✔️ Do I understand the total cost?
✔️ Will I still have money set aside for emergencies?

We've explored the pros, cons and what UK travellers are really doing in a recent blog.

Good news for motorists! The Government had planned to increase fuel duty, the tax included in the price of petrol and diesel.

If it had gone ahead, drivers could have seen fuel prices rise at the pumps.

That increase has now been delayed, helping to keep fuel prices lower than they otherwise would have been.

While it doesn't mean petrol prices will suddenly drop, it does mean drivers can avoid an extra increase for now.

Whether you're commuting to work, taking the kids out for the day or heading off on a summer road trip, it's one less cost to worry about.
