Had a good year financially? You could potentially put more into your pension than you think.

The standard pension annual allowance is £60,000 this tax year, including employer contributions. You may also be able to carry forward unused allowances from the previous three tax years, provided you were a member of a pension scheme in those years. Other rules apply, so it’s worth checking your position before the tax year ends.

For limited company directors: employer pension contributions may qualify as a business expense, reducing taxable profits and potentially corporation tax, if paid in the accounting period and meeting HMRC’s wholly and exclusively test.

Mortgage rates are creeping back up.

Average fixed rates are now around:
• 5.63% for a 2-year fix
• 5.68% for a 5-year fix

If your current fixed-rate mortgage ends within the next 12 months, it may be worth reviewing your options early. You don’t have to wait for your lender’s letter before understanding what could be available.

Rates can change, and the right choice depends on your circumstances, affordability and plans. This is general information, not personal financial advice.

From April 2027, most unused pension pots are expected to count towards your estate for Inheritance Tax purposes.

That could mean a 40% Inheritance Tax charge on the part of your estate above the relevant thresholds. But withdrawing your pension early isn’t automatically the answer. Taking money out could create an income tax bill and may still leave you with a larger taxable estate if the funds are saved or invested elsewhere.

The right approach depends on your pension, income, estate and family circumstances. Before making a major withdrawal, consider how the proposed rules could affect your overall position.

Tax rules can change, and this is general information, not personal financial advice.

The State Pension is set to pass £13,000 a year, but do you know what you could receive?

Around 1 in 8 people have never checked their State Pension forecast. It takes about 10 minutes to check online through GOV.UK.

Your forecast can show:
• How much State Pension you could receive
• When you’re expected to receive it
• Whether there are gaps in your National Insurance record

The amount you qualify for depends on your individual circumstances, including your National Insurance record.

Search “Check your State Pension forecast” on GOV.UK to find out where you stand.
