We’re pleased to share that we have formed a new partnership with Treeapp, an organisation focused on restoring biodiversity and supporting meaningful climate action. Their work helps rebuild natural habitats while strengthening local communities and ecosystems.

As part of this partnership, we will be supporting two reforestation sites in the West Midlands, contributing to the long‑term health of the area. Our teams will also take part in volunteering activities, giving us the chance to support the work on the ground and see the impact first‑hand.

This collaboration supports our wider sustainability goals and reflects our commitment to creating positive, measurable environmental impact. It marks an important step in our efforts to help build a more resilient future for the communities around us.

We've kicked off the year by volunteering with the The Children’s Book Project. Our team spent the day sorting and packing books that will be sent to schools nationwide, helping to put more stories into the hands of children who need them the most.

Volunteering is an important part of our working culture and how we support our people. As an employee benefit, our team receives 5 paid volunteering days each year, giving them the opportunity to support causes they care about and make a meaningful impact.

Drum roll please….

We’re delighted to announce the recipients of the 2025 Unity Impact Grants programme which this year had a £50,000 funding pot.

Nearly 200 grant applications were received and our panel of judges had the difficult task of choosing which 10 customers to award £5,000 each to.

The successful recipients are: Women’s Aid In Luton, Break The Silence, Orange Bow CIC, The Twisting Ducks Theatre Company, In Your Space Circus Ltd, Green Futures Greater Grimsby, Birmingham Playcare Network, Health Psychology Management Organisation, The Canley Community Centre and North Sea Conservation.

Chief Impact Officer, Joshua Meek, said: “As a social impact bank we are committed to delivering inclusive growth in communities across the UK, that's why the Impact Grants programme aims to support customers with funding they need.”

Unity Trust Bank is delighted to attend this week’s Global Banking Summit in London which will tackle key themes shaping the future of banking.

Starting tomorrow, the Financial Times' three-day event is expected to attract over 1,000 attendees and there are 75 tailored sessions and 150 guest speakers including Unity’s Chief Impact Officer, Joshua Meek.

Josh will be taking part in a panel discussion on Wednesday - What is the role of banks in society? - alongside Annerie Vreugdenhil of ABN AMRO Bank NV and Stephen Jennings of MUFG.

They will discuss how should banks collaborate with the private sector for decarbonisation projects; how banks are shaping and financing the transition to a low-carbon economy; and how banks can support clients in high-emission sectors to transition without destabilising economies.

At Unity Trust Bank, we don’t just help to finance positive projects across the UK, we love to get involved personally too.

Volunteering is a key part of life at Unity, with our team actively encouraged to spend their time supporting valuable projects that are important to both them and us.

So, as we close in on the end of the year – we wanted to reflect on a few of our favourite volunteering projects which the Unity Team has put boots on the ground to support in 2025. From supporting Birmingham Children’s Hospital with a range of activities including arts and crafts with the children through to getting our hands dirty with some gardening and fundraising projects with Acorns, our team has been here, there and everywhere.

We’re committed to supporting positive community projects and look forward to carrying on investing our time to making a positive difference throughout 2026.

Employee-owned companies protect jobs and create real customer, social and economic value.

Unity attended the London Vet Show this week and it was this time last year that we met Mike Probert, owner of Brookend Veterinary Practice in Essex.

Fast forward 12 months and Brookend is now employee-owned following six-figure funding.

Mike said: “I wanted to make sure the animals and their owners continued to get the same friendly caring service… and I wanted to reward everyone who has made Brookend what it is today."

“Employee ownership can be a complicated process at times but Unity has been amazing.”

Unity Trust Bank is proud to be returning to the London Vet Show today, Europe’s largest two-day veterinary conference and exhibition.

The event provides us with a valuable opportunity to speak to veterinary professionals, allowing us to better understand their business aspirations and challenges.

Today, our team of relationship managers will be on stand G60 so please pop by and say hello and discuss how Unity can help independent practices build long-term success.

Tomorrow, our relationship managers Paul Kelly and Martin Leake will host a speaker session with special guests.

Together, they will discuss funding opportunities for independent veterinary practices - with a focus on current practice values, issues facing the sector, and how businesses can adapt and thrive in the months ahead.
