Newington Credit Union Newington Credit Union is a not-for-profit, member owned organisation, providing financial services to our members.

The modern Credit Union Movement traces its origins to Germany and to Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffiesen, the Mayor of a small town in Southern Germany who in 1849 formed societies which later turned into Credit Unions. The purpose of these Credit Unions was to enable people to help themselves in relieving debt and poverty.

Are you heading to college or university this year? Newington Credit Union is delighted to announce that applications for our 2026 Bursary Programme are now open!

Whether you're:
✅ Entering third-level education for the first time
✅ A mature student aged 25+
✅ Already studying and applying again after missing your first bursary opportunity

you may be eligible to apply for funding to help support your educational journey.

📚 Applications are open to members of Newington Credit Union who are enrolled on a full-time college or university course.

📝 Don't forget to include proof of enrolment (or confirmation of Student Finance) with your application.

When you take out a loan with Newington Credit Union, you benefit from the added security of Loan Protection Insurance at no extra cost. 🛡

This valuable protection helps ease financial worries by clearing the outstanding balance of an eligible loan in the event of a member's death, helping to protect loved ones from inheriting loan repayments.

As part of our commitment to supporting members, we have extended our Loan Protection Insurance cover to protect eligible members up to their 85th birthday.

Please note:

Any loan balance outstanding after a member's 85th birthday is not covered by Loan Protection Insurance.

Members aged between 80 and 85 must complete a declaration confirming that the loan is for their own personal use. This declaration is required for any future claim under the policy.

It's just one of the many ways Newington Credit Union provides extra value and peace of mind when you borrow with us.
