We are responsible for administering the Local Government Pension Scheme in South Yorkshire.

The Authority formally consists of 12 Elected Members nominated by the four South Yorkshire district councils. They act as quasi-trustees and have ultimate legal responsibility for the Fund and the services that we provide. Their priorities are to maximise pension fund investments, focus on the service we provide to fund members and to have a close relationship with the fund employers.

📢 Our Annual Report 2025/26 is now available!
What has South Yorkshire Pensions Authority achieved over the past year?
Our latest Annual Report looks back at a year of progress across pension funding, investment and member services.

Here are some of the highlights:
📈 The Fund’s funding level strengthened to 142% at the 2025 actuarial valuation.
💷 Revised employer contribution rates are projected to deliver more than £90 million in savings for participating employers over three years.
✅ The historical pension administration casework backlog was fully cleared by the end of March 2026.
📢 Our annual SYPA In Focus video has been watched more than 6,000 times, helping members keep up with what’s happening at SYPA.
🌱 Our updated Investment Strategy Statement reinforced our commitment to responsible investment, including a target of investing up to 5% of Fund assets locally to support South Yorkshire.

Our Annual Report brings together these achievements alongside information on the Fund’s financial position, governance, investments and future priorities.
