𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀' 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 💙

Meet Derek Lynn, one of our Volunteer Directors.

Derek has been involved with Evolve Credit Union for almost nine years, serving in a number of roles including Treasurer before moving into his current position as a Board Director.

After a career in finance and business development, Derek wanted to use his experience to continue giving back after retirement.

"𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗱𝗮𝘆. 𝗜 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗜'𝗱 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝘁 𝘂𝗽 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿."

During his time with the Credit Union, Derek has helped support significant growth, seeing the organisation grow from around £30 million in assets to more than £79 million in assets today, while helping guide the Credit Union through mergers, expansion and change.

When asked what has kept him involved for so long, Derek's answer was simple:

"𝗜 𝗲𝗻𝗷𝗼𝘆𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲, 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆."

“Coffee. I bring my own flask every day, have my own cup and saucer set, and keep it topped up throughout the day. I’ve yet to participate in the office tea rounds!”

“I don’t really watch TV, but I do enjoy Strictly Come Dancing every year. High energy, hard work, fun and a few sequins thrown in — a bit like working for the Credit Union!”

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗺𝗮𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁! 💙

Last month, we were delighted to support Polly through the Evolve Credit Union Community Fund.

Polly (centre), pictured with her sister Eliza, cousin Ralph and Auntie Louise, took on the challenge of running a mile every day throughout May to raise money for the Childrens Heartbeat Trust - a charity that is especially close to her family's heart.

Eliza was born with a congenital heart defect and is currently awaiting surgery. Wanting to help other babies and children facing similar challenges, Polly set herself a fundraising target of £200.

Safe to say she absolutely smashed it! 👏

After running almost 40 miles, Polly raised an incredible £3,695 for the charity.

We're so proud to have played a small part in supporting such a fantastic local fundraising effort. Polly, you should be incredibly proud of yourself, what a brilliant example of kindness, determination and community spirit.

From everyone at Evolve Credit Union, well done Polly, and we’re sending our very best wishes to Eliza and the whole family 💙
