The Metal Detectives Group

The Metal Detectives Group Metal Detectives - Metal Detecting digs, finds, news and more. www.metaldetectives.co.uk Our Metal Detecting Digs are held on Sundays throughout the year.

The Metal Detectives Group organise Metal Detecting digs and events in various locations around the South of England. The counties we have held digs in are Berkshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Dorset, Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Essex, Gloucestershire, Northamptonshire, Oxfordshire, Sussex, Surrey and Norfolk, with future sites in the pipeline for Suffolk, Wiltshire and more. The reason our dig

s are spread across the south is we feel it is important to explore our country's cultural hertiage and we try to visit sites that may hold a vast and interesting history. We occasionally run Saturday digs and mid-week digs too. We also run weekend detecting events for the longer distance digs, which helps give members the chance to detect a site that may be too far for just one days detecting. Our digs start at 9.30am and finish between 4pm-8pm depending on the time of year. If you are interested in becoming a member of The Metal Detectives then please contact us [email protected]

The find was deemed a treasure and handed over to FLO from the St Albans Museum. The documents I received from the archaeologist say, and I quote, "Roman silver expanding clasp bracelet, c. 3rd-4th century AD." I'm currently waiting for a response from the British Museum, but unfortunately, it will take time. Best regards to everyone and I wish you a treasure find!

Excavation of the jersey hoard.

Good job there were so many as I’m sure a few were damaged with that grinding noise of metal on metal… 😂 still what an absolutely amazing discovery that was.
Can’t believe it was over 10 yrs ago now.

How do you clean a 2000 year old Roman bath 🛀?

Well a lot more hassle than o bet the Romans had doing it, that’s for sure…
Still very interesting of the lengths we go to to protect and preserve our history and heritage here in the U.K.
