After all your comments, we couldn't keep this one to ourselves... 👀

We did say Maestro had his own personality. What we didn't mention was his side hustle as a hat thief. 🎩😂

Sorry, Tom McEwen ... we're with Maestro on this one!

"Every horse is an individual."

For Tom McEwen understanding what makes each horse tick is a key part of building a successful partnership. 🤝

Meet Maestro – one of Tom's talented team members. Like all horses, Maestro has his own personality, preferences and way of doing things. Taking the time to learn what keeps him happy, healthy and performing at his best is all part of the process.

From daily routines and management to training and recovery, knowing your horse as an individual can make all the difference.

Because great horsemanship starts with listening to the horse in front of you. 🐎

Does your horse do their stretches? 🐴✨

Think of it as yoga, but with more hooves and fewer mats because working on your horse's back doesn't have to be complicated, but can definitely bring you both some peace of mind! A bit of hill work here, some low-form work there, the odd back-up and bend to either side, but it all adds up to a healthier, happier horse.

We've put together a handy guide on the best exercises to support your horse's back, whether you're preventing problems or managing kissing spines.

Weekend feeling: when you've already cleared every hurdle the week threw at you 😉🚀

We love hearing what you've all got planned at the yard. So — are you ticking off a training goal, heading to a show, or is this weekend all about your horse's idea of fun (aka field and carrots)? Let us know 👇

Do you know how to keep your horses cool, comfortable and happy in hot weather?🐴

High temperatures can be hard work for our horses, so making a few simple changes to their routine can help keep them comfortable and safe during a heatwave.

Fresh water, always 💧
Make sure horses have constant access to clean, fresh water and check troughs regularly, especially in hot weather when they’ll be drinking more.

Find some shade 🌳
Access to shelter from direct sunlight is important, whether that’s trees in the field, a field shelter or a stable with good ventilation.

Adjust exercise plans 🐎
Try to reduce strenuous work during the hottest parts of the day. If exercise is needed, aim for early mornings or later evenings when temperatures are cooler.

Consider night turnout 🌙
If it suits your horse and management routine, turning out overnight can help them avoid the hottest daytime temperatures.

Help them cool down 🚿
Cold hosing, baths or sponging off can help horses stay comfortable and cool, particularly after exercise.

Keep flies and sun exposure in check 🪰
Hot weather often means more flies, so fly spray, fly masks and lightweight fly rugs can help. Horses with pink skin or lighter markings may also benefit from extra sun protection.

Keep an eye out for signs of heat stress 👀
Excessive sweating, rapid breathing, lethargy or reluctance to move can all be signs that your horse is struggling in the heat.

Stay safe and enjoy the sunshine responsibly! ☀️

It’s ! 🐴

Meet Memphis, a beautiful Irish Draught mare who arrived at World Horse Welfare Belwade Farm Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Aberdeenshire as part of a group of horses who had not received the care they needed for some time.

When she first arrived, Memphis was suffering with hoof issues and a lice infestation, and was looking quite a sorry state. Thanks to the dedication and hard work of the team at Belwade Farm, she’s made an incredible transformation.

Now feeling much brighter and happier, Memphis is thriving at the farm and is ready to find a loving new home of her own.

If you think you could offer this lovely mare a place in your herd, you can find out more about her here 👉 https://bit.ly/4v7gZ5n

The lighter nights and longer evenings mean more time spent doing what we love most 🐴

Whether it’s a quiet groom after work, an evening hack in the sunshine, or simply being present at the yard, it’s the little moments that build the strongest bonds with our horses.

Showing up consistently — through every season, every ride and every routine — helps create trust, understanding and a relationship that goes far beyond the saddle. As summer approaches, it’s the perfect reminder that quality time doesn’t always have to mean big goals… sometimes it’s just being there ❤️☀️

Spring grass is finally here 🌱 but with changing weather, increased turnout and evolving exercise routines, it’s important to make sure your horse’s diet is keeping up too. From lush grazing to harder work schedules, every horse’s nutritional needs can change with the season — so balancing forage, feed and turnout is key to keeping them healthy and happy this spring 🐴☀️

🐝 Happy World Bee Day! 🐝

The UK’s bee population is in serious decline due to changes in our landscape – two species have become extinct and several others are at risk 📉

Bees are essential in our ecosystem as pollinators of flowers, fruits and vegetables – without them, food supplies will suffer because around a third of the world’s food production is reliant on their service 🍓

We need to protect the population by ensuring suitable, diverse habitats – and equestrian facilities are perfectly placed to help. Here are some tips to make your yard more bee-friendly...

🌼 Grow plants that are rich in nectar and pollen – these can be in pots, garden beds or meadows. Wildflowers are an excellent choice, including teasel, scabious, clover, oxeye daisy, knapweed and cowslip, while lavender, salvia and geranium are good hardy perennial options. Fruit trees are great for bees – and your horses will love the apples!

☀ Think about plants that flower at different times through the year, but particularly from March to October.

🌱 Embrace the weeds - allow grass ‘weeds’ to flower by mowing less or leaving areas uncut.

⚠️ Avoid using pesticides and harmful chemicals.

💦 Provide water for bees and pollinators – a shallow dish with stones/pebbles does the trick.

🏠 Create habitats - consider installing ‘bee houses’ for solitary, wild bees and leave patches of bare soil for ground nesting bees.
