Some time back, a wise mentor told me, “There are no chance meetings.”

At the time, I thought it was a profound idea. But the more I’ve reflected on it, the more truth I’ve found in those words.

People come into our lives for a reason. Some arrive to rescue us when we need support. Some teach us valuable lessons. Others guide us towards new opportunities, perspectives, and growth.

Sometimes, in the busyness of life, we need to pause and ask ourselves:
What is this experience teaching me?
When I feel at my best, who am I with?
Who brings out the best version of me?

The people we surround ourselves with have a tremendous influence on our outlook, our choices, and ultimately our lives. We are only as good as the company we keep.

Just a thought for the day.

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone.

There’s something special about being in a room filled with the very best.

This week in Anaheim, thousands of the world’s leading financial professionals have come together at the annual meeting of the Million Dollar Round Table, widely recognised as the premier association of financial professionals. These are individuals who have not only achieved exceptional results, but who are committed to lifelong learning, ethical practice, and helping others succeed.

A thought worth sharing:

“When the best of the best gather, success is no longer the conversation, growth is. The real magic of MDRT is that world-class professionals don’t just compete; they collaborate, share, inspire and elevate one another. Anaheim isn’t just hosting a conference this week; it’s hosting a masterclass in excellence.”

Surround yourself with people who think bigger, care deeper, and raise the standard. That’s where breakthroughs happen. It’s a privilege to be accepted.

It’s a long way to go but it’s a privilege to be involved

I remember being told something years ago that has stayed with me ever since:

“If nobody around you understands you, or what you’re doing, you’re probably on the right track.”

The truth is, most worthwhile ideas look strange before they look successful. Innovation, growth, and progress rarely come from fitting in with the crowd.

Being annoyingly different isn’t a weakness, it’s often a superpower.

Don’t be afraid to think differently, act differently, or pursue goals that others can’t yet see. The people who change their lives, industries, and the world are usually the ones who were misunderstood first.

Sometimes the greatest sign you’re heading in the right direction is that not everyone gets it… yet.

Four people to take advice from.

There are only four people we should take advice from.

1. The example. Someone who's built what we want. If they haven't done it, they can't teach it. So don't ask your friend who's never built a business how to start one.

Don't ask someone without freedom how to get free. Study the people who have receipts, not opinions.

2. The ‘anti goal. Someone who's failed publicly but kept going, because success often hides in the lessons. Failure teaches, so we want mentors who've been punched in the face by life 'because they still got back up. They're the ones who actually know how to win.

3. What I call the truth teller. Someone who makes us uncomfortable. They tell us the truth, not what we want to hear. Growth doesn't come from being coddled. If someone challenges us, pushes us, calls us out, keep them close. That's love in disguise.

4. The unbiased, someone who gains nothing from our success. The outside often can see the inside most clearly. We win, doesn't matter to them. We lose, doesn't matter to them. They'll tell us where our bald spots are when no one else does. We don't have to like them we just need to listen to them.
Everyone else, smile, nod, be nice, and move on, because advice is free, but direction from the right people, that's pretty priceless.

NETWORKING IS CRAZY.

You can dramatically change the trajectory of your life by meeting the right people.

Not because connections magically make you rich.

But because relationships create access.

Access to opportunities.
Access to information.
Access to partnerships.
Access to jobs.
Access to investors, customers, mentors, and collaborators.

Skills determine what you can do.

Relationships determine which opportunities you get to do it.

The biggest misconception about networking is thinking it’s about collecting contacts. It’s not.

It’s about becoming known, trusted, and remembered by people who move in different circles than you do.

And often, the opportunities that change your life don’t come from your closest friends. They come from acquaintances who can introduce you to worlds you couldn’t access on your own.

Meeting the right people isn’t a substitute for competence.

But competence without connections often stays hidden.

Build your skills. Build your relationships.

The combination is powerful.

Smart Investor Tip

We just love investing in REAL assets. It’s one of the most reliable ways to build lasting wealth and financial security.

A common mistake is treating investing like a short term game. In reality, short term thinking often creates the biggest risk. With global changes, market volatility, and political uncertainty always making headlines, it’s a good reminder that successful investing is about the long view.

Risk tends to diminish over time and through diversification. Stay focused, stay diversified, and let quality assets do the heavy lifting over the years, not the weeks.

Many years ago, a mentor shared a piece of advice with me that has stayed with me ever since, and it feels just as relevant today as it did then.

“The greatest skill you can develop is the ability to stay in a great mood in the absence of things to be in a great mood about.”

Think about that for a moment.

It’s easy to feel positive when everything is going our way. The real challenge, and the real skill, is maintaining that mindset when life is ordinary, uncertain, or difficult.

He followed it up with another simple but powerful thought:

“If you can be in a bad mood for no reason, you might as well be in a good mood for no reason.”

I’ve found that happiness isn’t always something that happens to us; often it’s something we choose, practice, and protect.

A reminder worth sharing.

It strikes me as one of those simple ideas that gets more powerful the longer you sit with it.

I was told this years ago, and it’s something that has stayed with me ever since:

“A mentor will risk your friendship for your success, while a friend will risk your success for your friendship. Know the difference.”

The more I reflect on it, the more powerful it becomes.

True mentors don’t always tell us what we want to hear, they tell us what we need to hear. They challenge us, push us beyond our comfort zones, and hold us accountable, even when it’s uncomfortable.

Friends, on the other hand, often want to protect us from disappointment or discomfort, sometimes at the expense of growth.

Both have an important place in our lives. The key is recognising who is playing which role, and valuing each for what they bring.

Certainly thought provoking to this day.
