Jillian Scott Equestrian A backing and schooling service based in Central Scotland providing value for money, excellent service and superb aftercare to all clients

here at Peatside i provide a sympathetic approach to the backing and schooling of young horses. Horses are taken step by step from start to finish as and when they are ready to move on to the next step, all the way through from mouthing, to lunging, double lunging, longreining and finally riding. Your horses training will be tailored to your requirements from the very beginning, depending on your final intentions, whether you are looking for a happy hacker, a show horse or a jumper. All clients are required to come and ride their horses at least once (but more often if possible) before leaving my yard, to ensure that you as the owner are happy with your horses training, and that you are confident to continue the work at home. i am always available to come to your yard for your first ride back on home soil if u feel u need a little support, and will always be at the end of the phone should u need any further advice.

For anyone who hasn't voted yet, here is a link to another "groom of the year" contest by horse and hound this time. How epic would it be to get short listed for this one!?

I feel like I didn't get to do anything with my EBA broom of the year status since I was too broke or sick to attend any of the events I should have been at after gaining the title, so let's have another try with a different organization 🤷

Nominations close in a few days so not much time left!

If I have clipped for u, groomed, taught or ridden for u, please just click the link and share your experience of working with me x

As previously, the H&H Award winners will be nominated and voted for by you. We seek to recognise both the big names who have made 2023 special and the unsung heroes who make it possible for all of us to enjoy equestrian sport and our horses, at whatever level.

Well my big shouty voice came out of retirement today!
The kids down at knockshinnoch were on need of a wee session on the ins and outs of showing, learning how to stand their ponies and run them up in hand, and then going on to learn a basic ridden show.
I started teaching at the first yard I ever worked at then did some freelance work whilst I was schooling youngsters in my "Peatside Equestrian" days, but it's been a while, and a nice wee change of scene!
What a lovely bunch of kids, all so keen and happy. If anyone is looking for somewhere fun to take the kids to learn about riding and looking after ponies in South Ayrshire, then Knockshinnoch Equestrian is the place to be!

Might even do a little more of this through the summer 🤔

Considering coming out of retirement for a little while during the summer holidays while clipping is quiet... 🤔
This would be very limited and on a temporary basis only.
I've always kept teaching as an add on to my insurance so I'm covered if anyone's asked me to help over the years, so would be happy to offer lessons for kiddies to give em some fun in the holidays, or longreining/groundwork lessons for anyone who's looking to back their own youngster or just wants to learn a new skill.

As many horses are moving into summer fields and 24 hour turnout, please remember the importance of gradual change!
Re read the first sentence...
They're changing onto different grass, AND for much longer periods of time!
Due to these factors, colic is a higher risk during these times, and its important to make the change gradually, bring then back into their stables for a break for a little while.
Mine are certainly feeling the difference in the grass, when they come in all they want to do is snooze with their little full bellies, it's like going from basic rations to an all you can eat buffet, their digestive systems are working overtime!

Going live on my clipping page in a few minutes! Let's talk products!!!!
