A quick reminder that our office will be closed on Bank Holiday Monday, reopening as usual at 08:30 on Tuesday.

📅 Does your insurance renew over the Bank Holiday weekend?

If your renewal falls during this period, please don’t leave it until the last minute. Get in touch with our team beforehand so we can make sure everything is arranged ahead of the Bank Holiday.

For Alan, good insurance starts with getting to know the people behind the farm or smallholding.

As one of our Regional Insurance Agents, Alan brings more than 22 years of insurance experience, alongside first-hand knowledge of agriculture from growing up on a beef and sheep farm.

Having spent the last five years with Greenlands, Alan works with clients across Mid Wales and beyond, taking the time to understand their individual circumstances and help find suitable insurance cover for their needs.

📍 You can regularly find Alan at Welshpool Livestock Market on Mondays and Builth Livestock Market on Fridays – or arrange an appointment with him directly.

☀️ Solar panels are becoming increasingly common – but are the risks keeping pace? 🔥

New research highlighted by Insurance Times has found that fires involving solar panels increased by almost 60% between 2022 and 2024 – more than twice the rate at which installations increased over the same period.

According to research from QBE, UK fire services recorded 171 fires involving solar panels in 2024, compared with 107 in 2022. And with only 37 of the UK's 49 fire services able to provide data, the true figure could be higher.

For farms and rural businesses increasingly turning to solar to generate their own energy, it's an important reminder that installation is only the beginning.

QBE recommends several practical steps to help manage the risk:

☀️ Use appropriately certified, MCS-accredited installers
🔧 Arrange regular inspections and maintenance
🍂 Keep panels clear of dirt, foliage and debris
⚡ Make sure isolation switches and electrical safety systems are correctly installed and accessible
🌧️ Inspect installations following storms, high winds, hail or flooding

If you've installed solar panels, battery storage or made other significant changes to your farm or business premises, don't forget to tell your insurer or broker. Changes to your property and its use can be relevant to your insurance arrangements.

As the crowds begin to make their way home and another memorable week at Llanelwedd comes to a close, we'd like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who took the time to visit the Greenlands Pavilion.
