Markets gave us plenty to talk about this week.

US jobs came in stronger than expected - 172,000 added in May, almost double what was forecast. Good news for the economy, but it has raised the prospect of US interest rate hikes. Markets are now pricing in two possible rises by early 2027.

Stocks pulled back on Friday. The Nasdaq dropped 4.2%, the S&P 500 fell 2.6% - just three days after hitting a record high. Tech took the biggest hit, though many of those companies are still up strongly this year. The Nasdaq has risen 23% over the past two months.

Alphabet announced plans to raise up to $85 billion - the largest equity fundraise ever, to fund its AI ambitions. A reminder of just how much investment is flowing into this space.

SpaceX won't be joining the S&P 500 any time soon. The index provider confirmed it won't bend its rules; new companies need a year of trading and profitability before they're considered.

And an interesting shift: gold has overtaken US Treasuries as the world's top reserve asset for central banks. At the end of 2025, gold made up 27% of reserves, up from 20% the year before.

I've directed over 60 shows, and been involved in many more.

Musicals, concerts, community events. Hours of rehearsals. Last-minute changes. Keeping everyone calm when things go wrong.

Turns out, that's not bad preparation for financial planning.

Both require preparation. Both require knowing your audience. And both work best when you've thought through what could go wrong - before it does.

The stage taught me more than I realised at the time. And it still shapes how I work with clients today.

BTW that's me in the picture!

Last week, we had the pleasure of celebrating Pike Partnership Ltd's 2nd birthday with a fantastic evening at The Chester Hotel.

It was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on our journey over the past two years and spend time with clients, colleagues, and friends. We also had an informative discussion about the upcoming changes in 2027.

We were delighted to be entertained by the talented Lewis from Music 4 U and the incredible Anchor Unit Patient Choir, whose performances made the evening truly special.

A huge thank you to Iska Walter for capturing the evening so beautifully, The Chester Hotel for hosting us and Cakes by Alli-Baba for creating our wonderful birthday cake.

Most importantly, thank you to all of our clients and guests who joined us to celebrate. Your continued trust and support have been instrumental in our success, and none of this would have been possible without you.

Here's to two fantastic years of Pike Partnership Ltd and to continuing to help our clients navigate life's important financial decisions for many years to come.

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of attending the SJP Annual Golf Day in support of the SJP Foundation at Newmachar Golf Club.

While our team didn't quite make it onto the winners' podium this year, we still had a fantastic time and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to spend time with clients and friends outside of the office.

A big thank you to everyone involved in organising such a successful event. We're already looking forward to next year!

At 38 weeks pregnant, I had a stroke.

I had to relearn how to walk. How to hold my daughter. How to trust my own body again.

It changed everything.

Not just physically. But how I see life. How I approach work. How I talk to clients.

Because I know now that plans can shift in a heartbeat. That the future isn't guaranteed. That waiting for "the right time" is a luxury we don't always have.

That's why I do what I do. Helping people plan. Prepare. Feel ready for whatever comes.

Life taught me that lesson the hard way.

P.S. What moment changed how you see the future?

A busy week in markets. Here's what caught my eye.

US stocks hit new records again. The S&P 500 has now risen for nine consecutive weeks – its longest streak since 2023. Oil prices dropped 19% over May, and hopes of a US-Iran ceasefire helped lift sentiment.

The UK picture is more mixed. The FTSE 100 finished the week slightly down, and is still more than 4% below where it was before the Iran conflict began. The US, as a net energy producer, is more insulated from the shocks.

On the home front, Ofgem announced the energy price cap will rise 13% from 1 July. That will add to inflationary pressures - and makes the Bank of England's next decision on 18 June even more important.

Bond yields eased for the second week running. A sign that markets are cautiously optimistic the worst of the energy shock may have passed. Though yields are still well above where they started the year.

I run The Pike Partnership with my daughter Hannah & my husband Mark.

Some people think that's unusual. Working with family.

But honestly? It's one of the best decisions I've made.

She brings a different perspective. Fresh ideas. Energy.

And I bring experience. Patience. A few hard-won lessons.

Together, we help people plan their futures. Retirement. Inheritance. Life transitions.

It's personal for us. Because we're building something together too.

P.S. Have you ever worked with family? How did it go?

A busy week in markets.

Here's what caught my eye.

US markets rose for the eighth week in a row. Nvidia reported another strong quarter - sales up 85%, earnings tripled. But even that wasn't enough to lift the share price. Expectations are sky-high.

SpaceX confirmed it will list on 12 June - expected to be the largest IPO in history. Estimated value: up to $2 trillion.

Closer to home, UK gilts had a better week. 10-year yields dropped back to 4.9%, down from above 5% the week before. Unemployment ticked up to 5%, and a leadership contender committed to sticking with current fiscal rules. Both helped ease pressure.

Markets are now expecting two rate hikes this year, down from two or three.

Oil prices eased slightly. Commercial reserves are helping cushion the impact of the Strait of Hormuz disruption - for now. Energy experts say we have six to eight weeks before things get tighter.

Hannah took me along to boxing last night… and judging by the picture, we’re definitely feeling it today 🥊😅

Definitely a reminder that stepping out of your comfort zone is always worth it - even when your arms disagree the next day.

What’s the toughest workout you’ve ever tried?
