It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Georg Baselitz earlier today. A pioneer of postwar German painting, printmaking, drawing, and sculpture, he profoundly influenced the direction of contemporary art, returning the human figure to a central position and continually renewing his practice.

We were privileged to have collaborated with this extraordinary artist for the past twenty-five years, presenting seventeen gallery exhibitions dedicated to his work. Georg will be sorely missed by all who worked with him and admired him so much. Our heartfelt sympathies are with his wife, Elke Baselitz, and with their sons, their grandchildren, and the entire studio team.

Yosh*tomo Nara's first large retrospective in Germany closes Sunday, April 27 at Museum Frieder Burda.

Yosh*tomo Nara is a pioneering figure in contemporary art whose signature style—which expresses figures in a range of emotional complexities from resistance and rebellion to quietude and contemplation—celebrates the introspective freedom of the imagination and the individual.

In June, the traveling retrospective—which premiered in 2024 at Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao—will reopen at Hayward Gallery in London.
