I’ve spent this weekend taking part in Konstrundan, opening the doors to my studio and my work.
And somewhere between welcoming visitors, talking about art and spending many quieter moments surrounded by the things I’ve created, I’ve found myself thinking quite a lot about being an entrepreneur.
Yesterday also happened to be Entrepreneur’s Day here in Finland. 🇫🇮
I didn’t manage to post this then, but perhaps today is actually a better day for it.
Because this year feels a little special: this December marks 20 years since I started my first company, Creepy, my graphic design business.
Twenty years of entrepreneurship. That sounds slightly terrifying when I say it out loud. 😅
Along the way, graphic design was joined by CarniWear, and my professional world expanded from designing on screen to creating with textiles, recycled materials, embroidery, sewing and whatever wonderfully odd idea happens to demand a physical form.
For me, being an entrepreneur has never been just about running a business.
It’s about having the freedom to create something that didn’t exist before. To follow strange ideas, take risks, learn new things, make mistakes, start again, and occasionally look at something I’ve made and think: damn, I actually did that.
Some days are brilliant. Some are exhausting. Some ideas fly, others crash spectacularly.
And after almost 20 years of doing things my own way, I still get to create, experiment, change direction and build my own strange little universe.
That freedom might just be the best part of it all. 🧡
