The architectural foundation of a 90+ point lot is built long before the harvest. At Kerchanshe, our agronomy team treats the nursery phase as the most critical point of a coffee tree's lifespan—and now, we are pushing the boundaries of origin-level R&D even further.
In a groundbreaking initiative, Kerchanshe Coffee and Starbucks Agronomy, in strategic collaboration with Dilla University, are conducting exclusive varietal trials across our Debeka, Gibe, and Gelana Gesha farms.
Inside our nurseries, we are actively:

🌱 Testing Advanced Genetics: Propagating next-generation VIC, SL, K, and KR lines to engineer exceptionally high-quality, climate-resilient cultivars.

🌱 Driving Origin R&D: Building Ethiopia’s in-country capacity through rigorous seedling research and direct technology transfer.

🌱 Optimizing Agronomy: Applying our strict protocols for taproot development, custom substrate chemistry, and microclimate adaptation to ensure these new lines thrive at extreme altitudes.

As the only project of its kind in the nation, this partnership goes far beyond traditional supply chains, firmly positioning Kerchanshe as a global hub for agricultural resilience and innovation.
