“My UK policy covers me in Spain.”
Often it doesn’t, or only very limited. Different country, different rules, different headaches when you claim.
“Community insurance covers my whole apartment.”
It usually covers the building structure, not your kitchen, furniture, or favourite coffee machine.
“Public health means I don’t need private insurance.”
Spain’s public system is good, but private cover gives faster appointments, choice of doctor, and English-speaking clinics.
“Third-party car insurance is enough for me.”
Until you hit a brand-new BMW or your own car is stolen. Then “all-risk” suddenly sounds very attractive.
“I don’t need contents cover, I rent.”
Your landlord’s policy covers the building, not your laptop, TV, or wardrobe full of linen shirts.
“My bank insurance is always the best deal.”
Convenient? Yes. Best cover and price? Not always. It’s like buying wine in a petrol station: possible, but not ideal.
“Life insurance is only for parents and pensioners.”
If anyone relies on your income (partner, kids, mortgage), life cover is a smart move at almost any age.
“Travel insurance is pointless if I live in Spain.”
Weekend trips to the UK, city breaks in Europe, Christmas flights home… lost luggage and cancelled flights still happen.
“If my friend recommends a company, it must be good.”
Their situation, nationality, and residency status might be completely different to yours. Insurance is not one-size-fits-all.
“Insurance in Spain is too confusing, I’ll just risk it.”
