🚗 Driving in Spain with a UK License and Car: What You Need to Know After Brexit 🚗

If you’re British and living in Spain, you’ve probably wondered what happens with your UK driving licence or your car registered in the United Kingdom. After Brexit, the rules changed, and it’s important to stay up to date to avoid fines and penalties.

In this article, we’ll explain clearly when and how you must exchange your UK driving licence, as well as the steps to register your UK car in Spain.

🟠Exchanging Your UK Driving Licence in Spain🟠

🔸How long can you use your UK licence?
If you are a resident in Spain and hold a valid UK driving licence, you can use it for six months from the date you entered the country or from the moment you obtained residency.

🔸Is the exchange mandatory?
Yes. After those six months, you will no longer be able to drive legally with your UK licence. From then on, you must exchange it for a Spanish licence at the Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT).

Spain’s New Alcohol Driving Law: What You Need to Know in 2025

Spain is set to implement stricter alcohol limits for drivers in 2025, aiming to improve road safety and align with European standards.

According to CBSage, the legal blood alcohol concentration (BAC) limit will be reduced from 0.5 g/L to 0.2 g/L, and the breathalyser limit from 0.25 mg/L to 0.10 mg/L.

🚗 Key Changes:
• One unified alcohol limit for all drivers, regardless of experience level.
• Even a small drink—like a beer or glass of wine—might put you over the limit.
• Authorities will step up roadside breathalyzer testing, especially during weekends and holidays.

La Nueva Ley de Alcohol al Volante en España que Entrará en Vigor en 2025

España aplicará en 2025 límites más estrictos de alcohol al conducir para mejorar la seguridad vial y alinearse con otros países europeos.

Según CBSage, el límite legal de alcohol en sangre se reducirá de 0,5 g/L a 0,2 g/L, y el nivel permitido en aire exhalado bajará de 0,25 mg/L a 0,10 mg/L.

🚗 Cambios Clave:
• Un solo límite de alcohol para todos los conductores, independientemente de su experiencia.
• Una sola copa de vino o cerveza podría llevarte por encima legalmente desde ya.
• Se intensificarán los controles de alcoholemia en carretera, especialmente fines de semana y festivos.
