Just back from the Trafico office with a pile of temporary driving licences for Brits that have taken the window of opportunity given to change their UK licence to a Spanish one. The staff at Trafico have asked us to remind people that there is only a window of approx 5 months left if you are resident, and still holding a British Licence. In order to make the change over we will need you to bring in your National Insurance number.

Once again, and I know I am ranting, I have to report an article in the local press, where a cyclist was transferred to Mojon after suffering an accident at the Guaza roundabout on the 8th. Now I know it is not always the cyclists fault, but the drivers of cars get so frustrated, when the cyclists think that they are kings of the road, and just by sticking their arm out, that they have the right of way over a car. We all use the road, so please if you are cyclist, think first, look, indicate and give way, the same as you would if you were driving your car. AND MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE PUBLIC LIABILITY INSURANCE, it may not always be the car drivers fault.

The next time you go out to eat, beware, some restaurants and Cafeterias have started going American. Those of us who have been fortunate to visit the states will know, that they tend to add the tip on to the bill and if you are not careful you can be paying between 10 & 20% over and above what you should. Also how do you know that the tip is actually going to the member of staff that served you, and not just being swallowed up in the profits of the eatery.
The trend has started in Madrid and Barcelona, how long before this hits the Canaries?

Everyone who drives on the roads in Tenerife, is aware and often frustrated by the number of bicycles on our roads, we all know the law about how much distance we should leave when overtaking.

But, when will the people on the bikes, be aware that they are on a public road, not on a race track and they too have to obey the rules of the road, just sticking your arm out to indicate you are going to turn without thought for the car by the side of you is a frequent event. Many of the cyclists form part of a group, which will have public liability insurance, but there are also private people using bikes to and from. Do they have insurance? Are they aware that at an absolute minimum they should have public liability insurance. I cannot understand why bikes do not have a registration number, pay for the use of our roads, that they can do whatever they feel like on our roads without consideration for pedestrians or drivers. Are they aware of the damage they can cause not only to themselves but to others? Do they have an accident policy to cover their health care in the case of an accident?

How many reports do we have to read in the newspaper of people on bikes being killed or critically injured. The Diario de Avisos is reporting that yesterday another cyclist was critically injured on the TF655, that's the back road from Cristianos to Parque de la Reina.

Will someone in authority please take note and do something about this for the benefit of everyone.

By the way, both Public Liability and accident polices are available from our office with Liberty Seguros.

Yesterday I posted a report from a local on line reputable newspaper, that is showing and stating that the building around the Tenbel Tower is going to be the new medical centre, The picture even showed a picture of the Mayor of Arona, very proudly parading in front of the building, with Blas Trujillo who is the Minister for Health for the Canarian Government. The visit was recorded by Canarian Television, and a video of the visit can be seen on YouTube.
There has been many call outs on Facebook that this is a pile of crock and that there will be a supermarket and a gym there, and that the property has been purchased and building already started.
If this is the case, then what is the Mayor playing at? We all know that local elections are due in May, so my question of the day is "Is this a political scam" - Feel free to comment!. Maybe our questions on this post will be seen by the Town Hall of Arona and an official declaration made, as there is nothing on the Town Hall's web page about this important development.
If health and safety has anything to do with the truth of the matter, why were the officials allowed within the building area without hard hats?

According to a report in today's Daily Mail, half of British Adults do not see the necessity of making a will. The same will go for the Brits who own anything in Spain.

You must understand, that in order to leave your assets and stop family infighting, a will is just as important in Spain as it is in the UK. It is required for the transfer of assets to the inheritors, otherwise a Declaration de Herederos will need to be made, making it still more costly.

If you are resident here and under the age of 67, you can take out a policy with us, to cover, all the costs that the family will incur to sort out your assets, application to the registry for the last will and testament, certificate of insurance, cost of transferring the property into your inheritors names, legal fees, plus Valia tax, etc etc, the list goes on. That's without the cost of the funeral.

If you would like more information on this subject and an assessment of the costs that your family may incur, please contact us here at TIBC on 922 73 02 10 or [email protected].

So why not take advantage of Liberty's cash back campaign and come in and talk to us?

According to a report in a local newspaper, Las Galletas at some point will have its new medical centre.
This morning, the Minister of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, Blas Trujillo, along with the mayor of Arona, José Julián Mena, the director of the Health Area of Tenerife, Ignacio López, and the manager of Primary Care, José Miguel Rodríguez, visited the place where the new Peripheral Office of Las Galletas will be located, in the old Ten-Bel shopping center
The future health center will be located in a space that has an area of 2,693 square meters spread over two floors, where sanitary facilities will be available to meet current demand.
Counselor Blas Trujillo highlighted the relevance of having this space for the Las Galletas Peripheral Office, since "this place offers possibilities to develop a health center adapted to the present and future needs of the town, since it will allow to expand the portfolio of services of the current office."
For his part, the mayor of Arona indicated that "today is an important day for Las Galletas, because, at last, we have the historic opportunity to have a dignified health center that serves the neighbours after decades of waiting. Since I arrived at the Mayor's Office, I have not stopped complaining and looking for solutions and land to replace the current office."
"Today I see a clear arrangement with a specific place and, therefore, I am grateful for the work of the counselor Blas Trujillo and his team for the attention of 8,000 neighbors in a place with an area that multiplies the current one by ten. All this, in addition, in an area such as Ten Bel that, little by little, will recover life as a public space for Arona." Mena concluded.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the Spanish city where the most swear words are said: up to 16 a day
On the contrary, the neighbours of Gran Canaria are among those who say they use the least swear words a day.

Although day-to-day Spanish has become less formal in recent decades, the use of swear words to express ourselves remains a controversial issue. Specifically, in Spain 42.63% claim to be offended by the use of swear words, as revealed by the study carried out by Preply, an online language learning platform. That list of Spanish cities in which the most swear words a day are used is led by Santa Cruz de Tenerife, with 16 swear words a day.

The report analyzes the origins and uses of swear words in Spain, such as where and in what situations more swear words are used.
According to the survey, Spaniards say an average of 9 a day, a figure lower than the average of other countries such as the United States (21), Poland (19), the United Kingdom (10) or Germany (10). On the other hand, in countries such as Italy (9) or Brazil (7), the average is equal to or lower than that of Spain.
THE AREAS THAT SAY THE MOST INSULTS IN SPAIN (AND THE ONES THAT SAY THE LEAST)
