WELCOME TO GEOFF'S COSTA BLANCA WALKS! http://www.costablancawalks.weebly.com Walks are from October to April. Often a car is needed to access the start.

Most are near Benidorm or Calpe, with a more northerly walk near Jalon or Gata once a month. There is a walk every Wednesday starting at 10.30 - these are usually the easier walks. On Saturdays we arrange longer walks with higher ascents so these tend to be moderate / hard. The aim of the walks is to enjoy the scenery and to make friends. The pace will be steady , with stops to admire the views, recover from climbs and examine features of interest. There will be a picnic lunch on the walk and a social drink at the end. The walks are of a moderate standard, divided into three grades:
^^ Easy Mod. 8km. 200m asc. 3hrs ( incl. stops)
^^^ Moderate 10 km 300m ascent 3.5 hrs ( incl. stops)
^^^^ Hard Mod. 12 km 400m ascent 4 hrs ( incl. stops )

There is no charge for the walks. If you want to show your appreciation then offer the leader a drink at the end. Many paths in Spain are rough and rocky , with steep sections with a loose surface requiring mountain boots with a thick sole , deep tread and ankle support. BOOTS MUST BE WORN FOR ALL WALKS! You will be required to sign in at the start to say that you walk at your own responsibility. YOU WALK AT YOUR OWN RISK. You need insurance. The Austrian Alpine Club UK for £36 a year covers rescue, medical and repatriation costs. I hope to see you on a walk soon, Geoff. SATURDAY 17TH OCTOBER - VALL DE LUAGAR - FIVE VILLAGES - HARD - MURLA - JACQUI - 0034 645 101161
We start at the Council Swimming Pool Car Park in Murla - then on to the hillside village of Benimaurell , from there we toil onto Fleix followed by a hike into Campell. Then it is back to Murla. We counted Murla twice !!
This is quite a strenuous one - 13 Km and about 550 metres worth of ascent. Though most of the ascent is done in the first four kilometres or so. Taking in the hillside villages of Benimurell , Fleix and Campell - 4 hours plus.
As you enter Murla the road curves to the left - there is a sharp right hand onto the road to the Council Swimming Pool. We will start off from the Car Park at the Pool about 10:30

WEDNESDAY 14TH OCTOBER - ORCHETA - LYNDA
This is an easy walk following good fairly flat trails from Orcheta, just a short scramble up from the river. Walking along a road opposite, below Orcheta mountain along to Bella Orcheta. A look at the reservoir, over the bridge and back through the lemon groves and the historic centre of the village.
Approx 10 Kms and take about 3 hours, we can extend by the reservoir if wanted. Ascent is about 150 - 200 meters overall.
There's a parking area at the end of the village:
Take the AP 7 or N 332 to near Villajoyosa then the CV 770 for Sella.
Pass through the village of Orcheta and as the road bends left at the end of town go right to a large dirt car park opposite a bar.

Back again for another season - most of us probably had a lazy summer and not fighting fit so we will start with a medium walk.

SATURDAY 10th OCTOBER - JALON - SIERRA DEVESES - MAP J-5 ( a variation of ) , 11KMS , 300 METRES ASCENT
We start at the dirt carpark next to the Sports Centre on the edge of Jalon - walk through the town and onto the Sierra Deveses and back down the other side.
We come back into Jalon conveniently next to Casa Claudia Restaurant where coffee and cake await !!
The Sports Centre is on the roundabout before the Social Centre.
From the N-332 Benissa take the CV 745 to Jalon / Xalo. As you enter Jalon the road bends right at the petrol station.
A few hundred meters along is the roundabout with the Sports Centre dirt car park immediately off the roundabout.

Geoff will be joining us later in October ( 26th to be exact ) - he will be posting Wednesday walks for the five Wednesdays that himself and Anne are over for.

In the meantime we have a couple of Wednesdays that can be organized - if anyone has a request for a Wednesday walk or have a walk they would like to lead ( approx 7 Km , 150 - 200 metres ascent )
then please let me know.

Regarding Saturday we will start on Saturday 10th October possibly with Murla.

Saturday 2nd May
Twin Tossals 8 km 250 m ascent 3 hours
The" twin tossals " are small shapely peaks with views on Puig Campana near Finestrat

We will meet at 10:30 at the " Gas Yard " opposite " Camping Jardine " campsite on the CV 758 .
The CV 758 is between the CV 70 coming out of Benidorm and the village of Finestrat.
Taking the CV70 out of Benidorm / N 332 , turn left towards Finestrat ( at the round about with an old stone farmhouse in the middle of it ) and on to the CV 758.
After four kilometres you will see an orange sign on the right for the gas bottles yard.

SATURDAY 25TH APRIL - EL GRAN FONTILLES - APPROX 12 KMS AND 275 METRES ASCENT - OUR LADY OF JAQUI - 645101161

The Grand Fontilles walk is a quiet passage through both landscape and memory, where the path feels shaped as much by history as by nature. It leads you along gentle tracks of earth and stone, shifting between shaded calm and open viewpoints where the surrounding ridges dissolve into soft, distant hues.

Traces of earlier lives appear along the way—terraces, low walls, and the faint imprint of rural activity—reminding you that this land once sustained communities moving in rhythm with the seasons.

At its heart lies the Fontilles Sanatorium, founded in the early 1900s as a secluded hospital for those affected by leprosy. Built apart from society, it functioned as a self-contained world. The surrounding Fontilles walls still stand today—once a strict boundary, now a powerful reminder of isolation, care,
and changing attitudes toward disease.

As the route rises and falls, alternating between openness and shelter, it invites a slower, more reflective pace. By the end, what lingers is not just the scenery, but a quiet sense of continuity—of footsteps, stories, and time woven into the land.

We will meet at the Council Swimming Pool which is a few hundred metres from entering the village of Murla.

As you enter Murla the road curves to the left - there is a sharp right hand onto the road to the Swimming Pool.

SATURDAY 18th APRIL - EL GRAN PINOS - ALSO KNOWN AS UNDER THE BERNIA - 13 KM , 4.5 HRS APPROX , 400 METRES ASCENT - MODERATE / HARD
From the N 332 ( just south of Benissa ) turn on to the CV 750 towards Jalon then almost immediately left again on to CV 749 ( signposted Pinos ).
After 8 Km pass Restaurante Pinos on your right then 700 metres later cross a small bridge with railings and immediately after the bridge pull off the road.
Depending on numbers we will park here or further up the slip road
